Filmmaker Martin Scorsese, whose name was at one point tied to Warner Bros.' Joker, admits he has yet to see the Todd Phillips-directed film.

Even though it's heavily inspired by some of his most famous works, Scorsese admitted he isn't all that interested in seeing the film. "I saw clips of it," he told The New York Times. "I know it. So it’s like, why do I need to? I get it. It’s fine."

In October, Scorsese caused a stir when he publicly denounced Marvel Studios films, referring to them as "theme parks" and "not cinema." His comments even got the attention of Disney CEO Bob Iger, who said he would arrange a meeting with Scorsese to discuss their impasse.

Although Scorsese was originally attached to Joker, the character's comic book ties proved difficult for him "For me, ultimately, I don’t know if I make the next step into this character developing into a comic book character. You follow?" he said in November. "He develops into an abstraction."

Directed by Todd Phillips, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais and Shea Whigham. The film is currently available on Digital HD on and will arrive on Blu-ray, 4K UHD and DVD Jan. 7.
