With Joker opening in theaters everywhere in less than a month, the upcoming IMAX release has unveiled its own exclusive poster putting Joaquin Phoenix's Clown Prince of Crime center stage.
As a car is set ablaze behind the eponymous DC Comics villain, Phoenix is seen wearing his signature, colorful suit laughing in the foreground, visibly reveling in the chaos he has unleashed upon Gotham City.
Todd Phillips' upcoming film reimagines the nefarious criminal as failed standup comedian Arthur Fleck in the 1980s, caring for his ailing mother. Frustrated by years of feeling insignificant and suffering from a mental illness when he is denied access to affordable education, Arthur reinvents himself as a murderous crook and plunges the city into violence and mayhem.
The film had opened to rave reviews at film festivals in Venice and Toronto, with Phoenix's performance as the titular villain receiving particular praise.
Directed by Todd Phillips, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais and Shea Whigham. The film arrives in theaters Oct. 4.
