Nearly two months into principal photography and production is continuing steadily on filmmaker Todd Phillips' Joker solo film.

Phillips has shared a new photo from the upcoming DC Comics film providing a candid look at star Joaquin Phoenix as the actor enjoys a cigarette break in full costume and makeup in between filming scenes for the origin film.

The behind-the-scenes photo shows Phoenix's Arthur Fleck is indeed wearing makeup as the titular villain and does not appear disfigured like previous cinematic incarnations, at least, not yet. The bright pink costume also appears to resemble the outfit Phoenix was seen filming scenes in last month in Brooklyn with the subway stations doubling for Gotham City.

With Phillips' Instagram post also revealing the photo was taken on set, Phoenix appears to be in an office with 80s period-appropriate magazines seen in a desk under his reclining feet. Given that Marc Maron is reportedly playing a booking agent for a late night talk show host played by Robert De Niro, perhaps the Clown Prince of Crime is paying Maron's character an unwelcome visit.

Directed and co-written by Todd Phillips, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix as the titular character along with Robert De Niro, Marc Maron, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, and Bill Camp. It is scheduled to be released on October 4, 2019.
