The following article contains spoilers for The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #1, on sale now from DC Comics.

The Joker has found himself a new love interest in a backup story featured in The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #1.

The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #1 features a backup story titled "Here's Lookin' at You, Kidder!" by writer Matthew Rosenberg, artist Francesco Francavilla and letterer Tom Napolitano. The story opens with the Clown Prince of Crime declaring he's fallen in love -- not with Harley Quinn or Punchline, but with one of Harley's best friends, Power Girl. Created by Gerry Conway and Ric Estrada, Power Girl debuted in the pages of 1976's All-Star Comics #58 as the Supergirl to Earth-Two's Superman. During DC's New 52 era, Power Girl and Harley starred in their own miniseries together after their paths crossed earlier on in Harley's 2014 solo series.

A Relationship That Would Almost Certainly Be Doomed to Fail

Power Girl, however, doesn't seem to have the same feelings for the Joker, as she responds to his request to have dinner with one another by punching him in the fate. While Power Girl takes the Joker into custody, the Batman villain quickly manages to escape and sets out to prove to his crush -- who the Joker refers to as his "future wife" -- he's honorable and trustworthy. "I have to prove to her I mean every word I say...sometimes," Joker thinks to himself.

Convincing himself Power Girl must have similar feelings toward him, the Joker tries on a number of different outfits (including costumes pulled from The Killing Joke, The Dark Knight Returns and more) before hatching a plan that invovles causing as much pandamonium in Gotham City in order to get Power Girl's attention. The attempt, however, goes unnoticed as Power Girl doesn't show up and the Joker walks home alone. In The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #1 final pages, Joker walks by a restaurant while the city continues to burn from the fire he started. As he walks away, the issue reveals Power Girl is sitting inside with a different version of the Joker who previously stepped out of one of Mirror Master's mirrors.
