Comic book movies dominated the box office this season, with four superhero related films crossing the $1 billion dollar mark. Recently, Warner Bros.' Joker added its name to the billion dollar club listing, making it the fourth DC/Warner Bros. movie to ever cross that threshold.

According to Forbes, as of now, Joker's domestic cume is  $318.44 million. As such, the domestic gross for the film is now higher than The Fellowship of the Ring ($313 million), Thor: Ragnarok ($315 million), Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone ($317 million) and Iron Man ($318 million). Its overall haul is now just over $1.004 billion -- the total gross of The Dark Knight.

Joker's success impressively comes without the help of the Chinese market, making it the only R-rated film to gross $1 billion dollars without being released in China. The subject matter of the film made it unlikely to release in China's strict movie environment.

Other DC/Warner Bros. films to cross the billion dollar threshold are The Dark Knight (2008), The Dark Knight Rises (2012) and Aquaman (2018). Joker has currently topped The Dark Knight's record, but the real challenge will be whether or not it can surpass The Dark Knight Rises' $1.081 billion cume.

Directed by Todd Phillips, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais and Shea Whigham. Joker is now in theaters.
