Next month marks the 80th anniversary of the Joker's debut in 1940's Batman #1 and DC Comics is pulling out all the stops to mark the occasion.

In addition to the 100-page oversized special's standard cover illustrated by Greg Capullo, DC has released the first wave of decade-themed variant covers, rendered by roster of superstar artists. These include a 1950s variant by David Finch and Steve Firchow, a 1960s variant by Francesco Mattina, a 1980s cover by Bill Sienkiewicz, a 1990s variant by Gabriele Dell'Otto, a 2000s variant by Lee Bermejo and a 2010s cover by Jock.

Additional decade variant covers yet to be released include a 1940s variant by Arthur Adams and a 1970s variant by Jim Lee and Scott Williams. The prestige-format special will include a collection of short stories and original artwork celebrating the Clown Prince of Crime's legacy.

Created by Bill Finger, Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson, the Joker has gone on to become one of the most iconic, enduring villains in the DC Universe. Largely associated with the Dark Knight, the character has been adapted into numerous media forms including Academy Award-winning portrayals by Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix.
