The unorthodox powers of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure characters do justice to the show's name. JJBA features some of the most unique and inventive abilities in shonen anime, which makes every showdown from this iconic battle series so much fun to watch. Yet, sometimes, the creator of Jojo Hirohiko Araki goes overboard with some of the villains' abilities.

With the sheer number of wacky, over-the-top enemies he came up with over the years, some of them are bound to be too convoluted and nonsensical for the viewers to grasp. No matter how much the fans try to wrap their heads around these villains' absurd powers, they still make no sense.

Spoilers for the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure manga ahead!

10 Pucci's Whitesnake Does Whatever It Needs To Move The Plot Along

Enrico Pucci and his Stand Whitesnake in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean

The main antagonist of Part 6 - Stone Ocean, Enrico Pucci, possesses an insanely powerful stand that likes to spawn new nonsensical abilities to progress the story. Whitesnake starts with a unique yet limited skillset of extracting two Disks out of a person, one containing their memory and the other — their Stand.

At some point, the Disks start becoming whatever suits the story best, with Pucci extracting his senses, people's memories, and abstract abilities on a whim. This made the already convoluted Stone Ocean even more confusing.

9 There Is No Way Carne Knew About Notorious B.I.G's Powers Before His Death

Notorious B.I.G in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

One of the most dangerous enemy encounters of JJBA Part 5 - Vento Aureo occurs because of a seemingly minor villain, Carne, but more specifically, because of his death. Carne's peculiar Stand, Notorious B.I.G, activates post-mortem, consuming the energy of everything it encounters.

This bizarre way of activation is what makes Notorious B.I.G nonsensical. There's no way Carne knew about his Stand being automatic and unlocking such a deadly power after its user dies. So, the entire Notorious B.I.G seems like a giant illogical coincidence in retrospect.

8 Wonder Of U Cannot Be Defeated Logically

Wonder Of U Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

Giving Stands' abilities broad definitions is how Araki can change the story midway, coming up with surreal ways for the villains to implement their powers. Yet, the lack of clear limitations creates confusing Stands, too abstract to understand.

JoJolion's final villain, Wonder of U, is a sentient Stand with a vague power to control the concept of Calamity, automatically stopping anything intending to hurt it or its user. This immensely overpowered ability bends the logic and intent of its opponents however it wants, which makes Wonder of U senselessly invincible.

7 Axl RO Somehow Crumbles To His Own Stand

Axl RO Stand Civil War JJBA

Johnny Joestar's fight against Axl RO and his esoteric Stand Civil War in Part 7 - Steel Ball Run was extremely entertaining. Yet, looking back at the encounter brings up a lot of questions about how Civil War actually works.

In concept, the Stand manifests a person's guilt to attack them. In the end, this powerful but confusing ability backfires, as Civil War revives Axl's enemy Johnny due to the villain's guilt over killing him. How Civil War turns on its own master is never explained.

6 Rikiel's Sky High Controls Made Up Cryptids

Sky High Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

Rikiel, one of DIO's children featured as a villain in Stone Ocean, fights with Sky High, a Stand that confused every Part 6 reader. Basically, Sky High lets Rikiel control Rods, enigmatic cryptids made up by Araki specifically for this fight. Rods are invisible and very precise.

They allow Rikiel to target specific parts of human bodies for nonsensical damage, from twisting ankles to slowing down the visual perception of his enemies by attacking certain nerve endings. For a nonexistent cryptic insect species, Rods are shockingly powerful.

5 Zucchero Pushes His Stand's Abilities Too Far

Zucchero uses Soft Machine on the Lagoon - JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind

Vento Aureo features plenty of fan-favorite battles and enemy abilities. However, watching Zucchero and his Stand Soft Machine fight was more frustrating than entertaining. Its core ability is pretty straightforward — Zucchero can deflate people and objects.

Viewers still wonder how Soft Machine could hide a deflated boat by layering it on top of the bona fide boat, hiding in the space between the copy and the original. No matter what explanation is given to this bizarre use of Soft Machine, it still makes zero sense.

4 No One Knows How Pucci's Made In Heaven Made A Whole New Universe

Made In Heaven JJBA

The idea of Pucci manifesting multiple Stands at the end of Stone Ocean was testing the fans' suspension of disbelief. Still, the nature of his final ability, Made in Heaven, left everyone utterly confused. Made in Heaven can accelerate time.

After hitting a vanishing point, it will reset and birth a new universe. The form of this new world is dictated by fate. In other words, it's never explained how all of the living people from the old universe ended up in the new one with just slight alterations.

3 Diavolo's Abilities Are Inconsistent And Poorly Defined

diavolo with king crimson jojo's bizarre adventure

Despite all the memes about how King Crimson's ability in Part 5 "just works," the explanation of Diavolo's Stand is quite straightforward. Its ability to erase time by frames is rather compelling and can be used in unique scenarios.

The problem with King Crimson comes from its inconsistencies. At some points, Diavolo can interact with objects and even kill people in skipped time, while in other instances, it's implied that the time King Crimson erases doesn't exist whatsoever. Overall, Diavolo's power is just a convoluted mess.

2 Kenzou's Dragon's Dream Acts On Its Own To Help Its User's Opponents

Dragon's dream in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure manga.

Stone Ocean introduces a compelling idea of a neutral Stand, Dragon's Dream, which is equally uninterested in helping its master Kenzou and his opponents. Yet, the execution of this fight left most fans confused. Dragon's Dream relies on the abstract idea of Feng Shui to point toward the fighter's "lucky direction."

Impossible to counter under normal circumstances, Dragon's Dream just explains its weaknesses to Kenzou's opponents, leading to its user's utterly pointless defeat. Frustrating and hard to follow, this fight left a lasting negative impression on the fans.

1 Funny Valentine's Stand D4C Works With Too Many Convoluted Concepts

JoJo Bizarre Adventure Part 7: Steel Ball Run's villain, Funny Valentine, with his Stand, ''Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap''.

Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, or D4C is President Funny Valentine's Stand in Steel Ball Run. D4C is arguably the most confusing opponent in the entire JJBA narrative.

The questions about D4C's ability start with the infamous "who shot Johnny Joestar" incident, during which the Stand seemingly crashed three parallel universe versions of Wekapipo, Diego, and Valentine together to shoot the hero at the same time. D4C's power revolves around dimensional travel, parallel worlds, and pocket dimensions, concepts too difficult to cohesively explain in a battle shonen manga.
