The next season of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure will see new protagonist Jolene Cujoh going to prison, but new episodes of the series will apparently avoid the "Netflix Jail" that other anime series on the streaming service have had to deal with.

Netflix's new listing for Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Season 5, also known as the Stone Ocean arc, reveals that new episodes of the series will be released on a monthly basis. This differs from the streaming company's usual method of releasing its exclusive anime series, which involves Netflix waiting until the entire season has aired in Japan and then releasing all of the episodes together in one late but highly binge-able release. Anime fans have dubbed this practice "Netflix Jail," since they sometimes have to wait months for the whole season to be completed before they can watch any new episodes, unlike the weekly "simulcast" releases that have become the standard on other anime streaming services, such as Crunchyroll and Funimation.

Another upcoming Netflix-exclusive anime series, Blue Period, has also confirmed that new episodes will be available to stream on a weekly basis. While Netflix hasn't made any official announcements regarding how the rest of their anime catalogue will now be distributed, it appears that the days of anime sitting in "Netflix Jail" for months may be coming to an end.

A WB Animation livestream in August confirmed that the highly anticipated fifth season of the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure anime would be released this fall as a Netflix exclusive series. The season adapts Part 6 of Hirohiko Araki's long-running manga of the same name. The protagonist for this season is Jolene Cujoh, the daughter of Stardust Crusader's Jotaro Kujo. The story arc is set in Florida, ten years after the Golden Wind arc's conclusion, and begins with Jolene being sent to prison after she is blamed for the death of her lover following a suspicious car accident. At her lowest point, she is sent a mysterious pendant that awakens a strange power inside of her, and she gets drawn in to the generation-spanning conflict between her family and the figure known as DIO.

In addition to the new season of the anime, Araki confirmed Part 9 of the manga series, tentatively titled Jojolands, will begin publication after he finishes taking a short break. The series will also receive a new spinoff manga written by Boogiepop and Others' Kohei Kadono, with art from No Guns Life's Tasuku Karasuma.
