JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a classic shonen series feature all kinds of wacky, creative twists and turns during the hero's journey to defeat the villains. JoJo isn't bizarre just for the humor or shock value: the series is beloved for its clever, resourceful and unpredictable fighters and fight scenes. In some ways, this series' combat system may be reminiscent of that of Naruto. True, Stand users aren't actually ninjas, but Jotaro Kujo is a hero who could easily inhabit either franchise.

Jotaro Kujo's Mind Games Make Him a Perfect Ninja

Jotaro Kujo isn't quite like his ancestor Jonathan Joestar, who was very much a stock shonen hero from top to bottom. Jonathan wasn't necessarily a bad character, but Jotaro can do more. Jotaro is merely 17 but he has wits far beyond his years. From the very start, Jotaro has been an insightful and resourceful fighter, using his wits to turn a losing situation around and defeat a stronger opponent. Time and again during the Stardust Crusaders arc, Jotaro saw "beneath the underneath," as Kakashi Hatake puts it, and deduced his opponent's strategy.

For example, foiled both D'Arby brothers with his sheer wits, first by observing them, then looking under the surface to piece together his enemy's plans. The ninjas of the Naruto world often operate that way too, patiently observing the enemy and using tricks such as the transformation jutsu to listen in on the enemy.

For example, Jotaro defeated the master gambler Daniel J. D'Arby when he observed Joseph's games against Daniel, and Jotaro realized that this enemy Stand user was all bluster and tricks. Daniel was a cheater, and more importantly, Daniel himself explained that cheating was acceptable as long as the cheater isn't caught. Jotaro turned this against Daniel, realizing that Daniel was too used to being on the offensive and had few defenses to call upon when his enemy turned the tables. Jotaro bluffed Daniel right back, wagering his mother's soul in exchange for vital data on DIO's Stand. Daniel would be killed if he gave away that info, and the sheer pressure of this situation drove Daniel mad and caused him to admit defeat in his heart. Brute force was not necessary here; shinobi-level mind games won the day.

Something similar happened when Jotaro defeated Terrence D'Arby, except Jotaro used cheating to beat a master at mind games, the inverse of the Daniel battle. Jotaro wordlessly asked Joseph to use his Hermit Purple stand to use his controller, and thus cause Jotaro's thoughts and his actions to become different. At that point, Terrence gained nothing from reading Jotaro's mind with his Stand, leading to his defeat.

Jotaro & Naruto Share the Same Powerful Traits

Naruto Accesses Six Paths

Jotaro's sharp wits and resourceful mind make him just like a Naruto ninja, but that's not the whole picture. Above all, both Naruto and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure share similar values as shonen, and Jotaro perfectly embodies what makes for a good shonen hero. Jotaro would fit right in with ninja like Might Guy, Rock Lee and others who use sheer strength of will to win the day, all while staying true to the shinobi way. The heroes of the Leaf Village are driven by the Will of Fire, the fierce determination that keeps them in the fight no matter the odds. Jotaro, too, has shown incredible grit during his journey to save his mother's life, and he is practically trembling with rage when enemy Stand users threaten his mother's life or that of his grandfather Joseph (though he wouldn't admit it).

Naruto Uzumaki and Jotaro Kujo both understand that abused strength is no strength at all. They use their respective powers and abilities with a strong sense of responsibility, to protect their friends and family and to bravely face injustice or cruelty anywhere they find it. Naruto fought hard to take down Pain of the Akatsuki and swore to help end the cycle of vengeance, and he sympathizes with Gaara and other people who suffered great injustice and prejudice at the hands of others. Jotaro isn't quite so idealistic, but he's quick to strike down deceptive and cruel enemies like DIO and the D'Arby brothers for the sake of saving his mother's life.

Jotaro never did a single thing for his own sake; like Naruto and his friends, Jotaro does what's right, and never asks for anything in return. With his clever mind and powerful Stand, he can triumph against the forces of evil every time.
