JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a series that has truly stood the test of time. The manga came on the scene in 1987 and it's still kicking, more popular than ever today. This is due to the amazing world full of great characters and concepts that series creator Hirohiko Araki created. However, one character type truly stands out in this series, and that's the villains.

Two of the series's most famous villains are of course the "alpha and omega" of JoJo's baddies, Dio, along with the mysterious Kira. These two are touted as the best villains by many fans and today we're going to be looking at and listing the cases for both of them being the best.

10 DIO IS A SPECTACLE

As soon as he debuts in the series, Dio is a character that you know you're going to love watching. His personality reflects right off his character design, amplifying everything he does times two. This goes double in Stardust Crusaders, as that's when the series goes even further into the area of over-exaggeration.

In the anime the Japanese voice actor for Dio takes this to the next level, offering the perfect text to screen adaptation of this villain that you can imagine. He's just an all-around fun character that will have your eyes and ears glued to this anime.

9 KIRA IS SYMPATHETIC

To many fans of different pieces of media, a sympathetic villain is the best kind, and JoJo's Kira is no exception. He's said it himself in his famous quote of wanting to just live a quiet life. The thing that takes him away from that seemingly simple wish is a crazy strong fetish with disembodied hands of women.

This shows that given the right circumstances, and if he was lacking that fetish, Kira could actually be a good guy living a normal life. Sadly this isn't the case, thrusting him into the spot of the villain of the series.

8 DIO IS EVERYTHING

What we mean by this is that no matter where you go in the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, no matter the part you're watching, Dio is somehow influencing the ongoing story. The common theme of the series is the Joestar legacy versus the influence of Dio, and it's executed amazingly with the cast facing against some form of Dio, whether they know it or not.

Dio isn't simply a villain nor antagonist, but a tool used to world build and introduce new plot elements. This makes him the essence of JoJo's, along with the Joestars.

7 KIRA IS HUMAN

Unlike Dio, Kira didn't come into this world looking for vengeance and has no evil goal either. Much like we said earlier, all Kira wants out of life is to live in peace. He's a very human character with normal human aspirations...

As we all know, that simply cannot be the case because of his fetish with hands.

The love of Kira comes from this. He's a normal character with a very weird quirk living in the over the top world of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and it's great to see him deal with the circumstances of it. Villain or not.

6 DIO HAS A LEGACY

We see Dio start off in the first part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. We literally witness his start in Phantom Blood. This gives us an immediate connection with the character, and gives us a lot of time to follow his aspirations and dreams, even though our connection changes with him in the following parts.

Like we said, Dio is JoJo's. Unlike Kira, this villain feels like he has an entire legacy behind him due to his influence on the world around him. The fact that this legacy grows in each part makes him a better villain part by part.

5 WE GET MORE TIME WITH KIRA

Throughout the entirety of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Dio feels more like an enigma. Think of a legend that only shows up once every blue moon. We're not sure he's there, but we can always feel his presence. Kira is the direct opposite of that.

Kira is a character that we spend a lot of time following in Part 4. We see him live his "normal" life, we see him scheme, we see him sweat, and we see his plans from start to finish. Resulting in a closer connection with the character. Yeah, Dio is the staple villain of the series, but that can't replace the quality time and development we see from Kira.

4 DIO IS A TRUE VILLAIN

You know you have a perfect villain on your hands when audiences all around love to hate him. This is 100% the case with Dio. The character has no reason to be evil besides the sake of being evil. Dio literally lives to make others suffer, and while that may seem like it's just bad writing, it isn't. It's simple but strong character writing, and it's something that makes Dio memorable.

Dio always has fans waiting to see what dirty deed he does next.

3 KIRA'S PERSONALITY IS VERY INTRIGUING

Kira is a character with a very clashing personality. On one hand, he believes he can do anything due to his self-confidence. This is why he thinks he can kill and still live a fairly unassuming life. On the other hand, Kira just wants to live a quiet and normal life, unbothered by the oddities that a bizarre lifestyle could present him with.

These two pieces of his personality fully cancel each other out, resulting in the story that unfolds during Part 4. This gives fans a new type of antagonist to follow that is different from the JoJo's villains before.

2 DIO HAS THE MOST ICONIC STAND IN THE SERIES

Even if you haven't given Part 3 of JoJo's a watch, odds are you've heard "ZA WARUDO!" or The World. This is Dio's iconic time stopping stand that has been the center of memes even before the new JoJo's anime began making rounds. This stand has been around the internet forever, especially popularized for a crazy combo from a classic Capcom JoJo's fighting game.

This stand alone is the reason for many of Dio's fans, and honestly, it's a good reason. Hearing him yell "ZA WARUDO" and "TOKI WA TOMARE" is still the most charming yet badass thing ever.

1 KIRA'S STAND IS VERY UNIQUE

Compared to the stands before it, Kira's Killer Queen has a certain uniqueness that adds even more to Kira. It reflects his personality in a kind of creepy way by being an average shaped stand with a sinister aura to it. Unlike other stands, Killer Queen doesn't emote, keeping its same wide-eyed expression constantly.

It also has a very unique set of abilities. Not only can it charge any object and make them into bombs, but it can also create air bombs, deploy Sheer Heart Attack, and loop time with Bites the Dust.
