Golden Wind, part 5 of the JoJo series, introduces yet another cast of colorful characters and their Stands with a variety of powers. Both protagonists and antagonists form strategies to outsmart their enemies, some to success and some to failure. Some strategies were surprising, and ended up being successful despite unfavorable odds.

10 Bucciarati’s Evasion Of Pesci

When Bucciarati’s team is attacked on a train, Bucciarati is left to contend with Pesci and his dangerous Stand alone. Pesci’s Stand can sense life forms. When Bucciarati realizes this, he takes drastic measures to evade his enemy.

He splits himself apart with his own zippers, making him appear like a dead body to Pesci. He came close to stopping his own heart and dying before managing to piece himself together. His strategy was risky and almost deadly, but he got the upper hand on his enemy and turned the battle in his favor.

9 Giorno Infects Himself To Defeat Illuso

Illuso proves to be a formidable opponent when he drags both Abbacchio and Fugo into his mirror world and starts to attack them. Fugo’s deadly virus Stand is left trapped outside the mirror world. Giorno uses this to his advantage, infecting himself and allowing Illuso to pull him into the mirror world.

When Illuso realizes that he is infected, he flees to the normal world. He leaves himself open to being attacked and ultimately defeated by Fugo’s Stand. Giorno saves himself from the virus by creating a snake with antivenom.

8 Narancia Uses Foresight To Surprise Formaggio

Narancia finds himself in a desperate battle, shrunk to a size even smaller than a rat after being hit with the power of Formaggio’s Stand. Formaggio, who is normal sized, traps him in a bottle with a spider and intends to let the spider kill him.

For Narancia, it's almost over. He reveals that earlier in the fight he shot the gas tank of a nearby car with his Stand, and was waiting for it to explode. The explosion releases Formaggio’s Stand power and returns Narancia to normal size. Narancia's foresight allowing him to get the advantage over his enemy.

7 Mista Uses Sale’s Arrogance Against Him

Mista, who wields a gun-based Stand, seems defeated by Sale. Sale's Stand ability can remove the kinetic energy of objects. Mista tricks him into letting his guard down by revealing he is going to fire his last bullet, which will be redirected back towards him. His appeal to Sale’s arrogance works in his favor when Sale gives the bullet kinetic energy and fires it towards him. Unaware of Mista’s Stand attached to the projectile, Mista uses it to reverse the trajectory, split the bullet in half, and kills him.

6 Giorno And Koichi Work Together

At the beginning of Golden Wind, Koichi is a visiting character from Diamond Is Unbreakable. Koichi is pitted against Giorno, and they are initially enemies. When they both end up facing Polpo’s deadly Stand, they realize they need to work together and they should not be enemies.

Combining Koichi’s power of increasing an object's weight and Giorno’s power of life-giving, they manage to pull Polpo’s Stand out of the shadows it inhabits and into the light where it is weakest. This brings an end to their shared enemy.

5 Mista Buys Time For Giorno

In a fight with Ghiaccio, who wields a formidable ice-based Stand, Giorno and Mista work together at the expense of their own health to defeat their enemy. Mista hurts himself the most, managing to trap Ghiaccio and firing at him with his Stand’s bullets.

However, Ghiaccio’s ice deflects the bullets back at him. Mista sustains injuries and almost loses consciousness. Giorno has enough time to regroup from being hurt, arrives to defeat Ghiaccio and saves Mista from further harm.

4 Trish Uses A Stand’s Ability Against Itself

Bucciarati’s team becomes trapped on a plane, pursued by the nearly invincible Stand Notorious B.I.G. Due to her teammates’ injuries, Trish ends up facing the Stand alone, and awakens her own Stand abilities in the process. Realizing that Notorious B.I.G. attacks the fastest thing in its vicinity, she uses this to her advantage.

Trish purposefully severs the cockpit from the rest of the plane’s body. This sends the Stand into the ocean where it remains trapped, chasing the waves. Using her Stand’s rubberizing ability, Trish turns the plane cockpit into a parachute, saving her friends.

3 Giorno Uses His Stand To Save His Friends

When Bucciarati goes to deliver Trish to her father, Giorno knew this was likely to end badly. In an act of strategy, he gives Bucciarati a brooch imbued with his Stand’s power so he can be tracked.

Bucciarati later realizes Trish’s father, Diavolo, means to kill her. Bucciarati goes to save her, becoming gravely injured by Diavolo in his attempt. Fortunately, Giorno is able to track him down using the brooch, saving both him and Trish from being killed.

2 Polnareff’s Effort To Stop Diavolo

A returning character from Stardust Crusaders, Polnareff attempted to assassinate Diavolo sometime before the start of Golden Wind. Later, he contacts Bucciarati and his team. Polnareff tells them about the mysterious Arrow he has that will give them the power to defeat Diavolo.

Despite Diavolo’s attempts to get the Arrow himself, Polnareff manages to let the Arrow transform his Stand into Silver Chariot Requiem. This causes chaos for both sides, but ultimately keeps the Arrow out of Diavolo’s hands and allows Bucciarati’s team to obtain victory.

1 Giorno’s Defeat Of Diavolo

In the final battle against Diavolo, Giorno pierces his Stand with the Arrow. Giorno also allows himself to be struck by Diavolo’s Stand. At first, this seems to be a costly and potentially deadly move, as it initially appears that the Arrow has rejected Giorno’s Stand.

It is then revealed that Giorno’s new Stand had formed beneath his old one, and Diavolo’s attacks had freed it. With his new Stand, Gold Experience Requiem, Giorno defeats Diavolo easily, making the injuries he sustained worthwhile.
