JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a long-running, smash-hit shonen action anime series with a truly unforgettable cast of characters to its name. The main character of each story arc is a member of the Joestar family, but they never fight alone. From the very beginning, these Joestar heroes fight alongside one or more JoBros, loyal friends and companions.

Some of these JoBros don't last long, or they simply aren't as interesting or powerful as others. There's not much to say about Golden Wind's JoBro character Pannacotta Fugo, for example, but other JoBros set the standard for what anime friends are really supposed to be like. From Phantom Blood to Stone Ocean, the best JoBros definitely stand out in the eyes of JoJo's fans.

Updated on January 9th, 2023 by Louis Kemner: With the Stone Ocean story arc now complete, fans of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure have more to love about this lenghty shonen saga than ever before. Every time new characters like Ermes, Foo Fighters, and Emprio are introduced as JoBros, fans may think back to their favorite JoBros who came before them. It becomes clear that even the smartest, strongest Joestar heroes wouldn't survive long without these loyal friends standing by their side. Now, let's meet a few more of them and see what they can do.

14 Robert E. O. Speedwagon Cheered Jonathan On

Robert E.O. Speedwagon from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

The well-dressed Robert E. O. Speedwagon is the first JoBro to appear in the franchise, and arguably, he is also the best and most popular as well, often jokingly referred to as anime's best waifu. He and his thug friends cornered Jonathan on London's Ogre Street, only for Speedwagon to have a change of heart.

Upon seeing Jonathan's heroic spirit in action, Speedwagon switched sides and became Jonathan's friend and cheerleader. After Jonathan died, Speedwagon honored his memory by creating the Speedwagon Foundation to support all future Joestar heroes.

13 Caesar Zeppeli Feared No Aztec Vampire

In the Battle Tendency story arc, a brand-new JoBro character made his debut: Caesar Zeppeli, the grandson of Jonathan's Hamon teacher, Baron Zeppeli. Caesar was a hot-blooded, proud young man who would tolerate no slander toward his family's name or Hamon, but he wasn't a total jerk, either.

After an amusing first meeting, Caesar agreed to be Joseph Joestar's ally in the desperate battle against the mighty Pillar Men, and they trained together under Lisa Lisa. However, Caesar recklessly fought those vampires alone and perished, so Joseph honored this JoBro's memory by wearing his colorful headband.

12 Noriaki Kakyoin Was A Cool Green JoBro

Kakyoin and Hierophant Green in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

The Stardust Crusaders story arc features not one, but three outstanding JoBros, starting with the high school student Noriaki Kakyoin. He was an enemy at first, but only because DIO the vampire controlled him with that flesh bud. Once it was removed, Kakyoin became an honorable ally to Jotaro.

This JoBro amused and delighted fans with his cool, confident use of his Hierophant Green Stand and its supposedly unblockable Emerald Splash technique. He made a triumphant return late in Stardust Crusaders and gave his life to help Joseph and Jotaro unravel the mystery of DIO's own Stand.

11 Jean-Pierre Polnareff Was Goofy But Deadly

Polnareff in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

Jean-Pierre Polnareff was a lot like Kakyoin at first, being enslaved to DIO's will with a flesh bud embedded in his forehead. Once Jotaro's team defeated him and his flesh bud was removed, Polnareff became a loyal ally to Jotaro, determined to get revenge for his sister's death no matter what.

Polnareff suffered many mishaps as an adventurer, but that's why JoJo's fans love him as a goofy, unlucky hero who tries his best despite the odds. He also had a few moments of glory, such as when he used his wits to turn the tables on Vanilla Ice and defeat his seemingly invincible Stand, the all-devouring Cream.

10 Muhammad Avdol Was A Stylish Fortune Teller

Joseph Joestar's good friend Muhammad Avdol is an Egyptian fortune teller who has skills as an amateur tour guide, but that's not all he can do. Avdol is also a Stand user, wielding a fire-based, phoenix-like Stand named Magician's Red. It was also the first Stand to fully appear in the story.

Avdol is a terrific JoBro in many ways, from his polite, friendly personality to his confidence, maturity, and sense of responsibility. He helped the team survive some seriously difficult fights, and he nobly gave his life to protect Polnareff from Vanilla Ice's wrath in DIO's private palace.

9 Okuyasu Nijimura Is Josuke's Punk Friend

okuyasu nijimura yelling - jojo's bizarre adventure

The Diamond is Unbreakable story arc introduced a few new JoBro characters for Josuke Higashikata to hang out with, and Okuyasu Nijimura was definitely the best of them. Like many JoBros, Okuyasu was a villain at first, but then he changed his ways and became the Joestar hero's friend.

Okuyasu may not be too bright, but he is tough, loyal, and strong-willed, which is all the street-wise punk Josuke needs from a true friend. Okuyasu is also hilarious as a comic relief character and can be surprisingly vulnerable and sympathetic at times, too.

8 Trish Una Changed Her Ways For The Better

Trish Una looks concerned (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure).

Protagonist Giorno Giovanna joined an entire squad of Stand users who were all like his JoBros, and they also recruited the boss' daughter, the pink-haired Trish Una. At first, Trish was a total himedere, a wannabe princess who acted haughty and expected everyone to do her bidding.

Trish soon came face to face with the harsh reality of her life, and she abandoned her bratty himedere ways for good. As a true JoBro, Trish became a loyal, reliable, and hardworking supporting hero who would risk her very life to vanquish evil and bring peace to Italy's streets. She also wields a Stand named Spice Girl that can soften things with its fists.

7 Bruno Bucciarati Looked Out For Giorno

Bruno Bucciarati thinking

In many ways, the Golden Wind JoBro named Bruno Bucciarati could have been a shonen protagonist in his own right. He even had his own team of Stand user heroes, meaning they were all his own JoBros. That made all the difference when Giorno joined the group, too.

Bruno Bucciarati is an outstanding JoBro with his remarkable Sticky Fingers Stand, his leadership skills, his fierce loyalty to his crew, and his immense courage in the face of extreme danger. Even when he technically died, he kept fighting and led his team in battle against Diavolo until the very end in Rome.

6 Guido Mista Accepted Giorno As A Friend

Even if Bruno was the best JoBro of the Golden Wind story arc, fans shouldn't overlook the stellar Guido Mista, a gunslinger Stand user who was Giorno's #2 ally in that adventure across Italy. Unlike Abbacchio, Narancia, and Fugo, Mista warmly accepted Giorno into the group right away, which was a good sign.

Aside from that, Mista gladly fought by Giorno's side several times as a reliable friend, such as when they visited the island of Polpo's treasure and that time when they faced Ghiaccio together. As a bonus, it's amusing to watch Mista interact with the six living bullets that make up his Sex Pistols Stand.

5 Ermes Costello Was Jolyne's First & Best Friend In Prison

Ermes Costello in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Stone Ocean.

Protagonist Jolyne Cujoh had an immediate and urgent need for allies inside the Green Dolphin Prison, and fortunately for her, the new JoBro Ermes Costello came along sooner than later. Ermes is tough and crude sometimes, but she has the true heart of a JoBro as a loyal, honorable, and trustworthy partner in crime.

Ermes and Jolyne have each saved the other's lives multiple times in the Stone Ocean arc so far, and they're just getting started. Ermes is determined to get revenge for her sister and help out Jolyne however she can with the use of her own Stand, Kiss.

4 Foo Fighters Was Jolyne's Best Stand Friend

Foo Fighters is happy in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

It's rare for a Stand to become its own character in JoJo's, but in the Stone Ocean story arc, Foo Fighters became both a proper character and a JoBro. She was a water-based Stand who was made up of a plankton colony, and she attacked Jolyne and Ermes.

Foo Fighters lost and lamented living a pointless life. Then Jolyne saved F.F. with much-needed water, and F.F. decided to join Jolyne and Ermes as a loyal friend with a human disguise. She also provides comic relief, often by chasing after water to drink and sustain her body.

3 Emporio Alnino Supports Jolyne From The Ghost House

Emporio Alnina from Stone Ocean

Emporio Alnino was born in the women's prison, being a "native" of that stone ocean without truly knowing the outside world. His presence bewildered and alarmed Jolyne at first, but this baseball uniform-wearing boy proved himself a unique and helpful JoBro.

Emporio uses the ghost room as his base of operations, an unusual room where this dandere Stand user can shield his friends from their enemies. However, Emporio rarely fights enemy Stand users directly, instead aiding Jolyne and Ermes with his advice, ghost room, and his knowledge of the prison.

2 Mikitaka Hazekura Is Josuke's Maybe-Alien Pal

Mikitaka Hazekura from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure anime

Mikitaka Hazekura is truly bizarre even by JoJo's standards. He claims to be a space alien and has a UFO-themed outfit, but it's still not 100% clear if he is truly an alien or simply a Stand user playing games. Either way, his shapeshifting ability has proven useful to Josuke a few times.

Mikitaka isn't much of a fighter. Instead, he uses his morphing powers to help Josuke confuse people and get money. The main and funniest example was when Mikitaka morphed into dice to help Josuke cheat Rohan Kishibe out of his money in a game of chance.

1 Narancia Ghirga Is A Cool Brat

narancia on boat jojo's bizarre adventure

Narancia Ghirga is a bratty but cool boy in Bruno and Giorno's squad in Golden Wind. He is also a total punk and tsundere who's quick to lash out in anger, even kicking cars when things don't go his way. In combat, he provides ranged support with his small, fast-moving Aerosmith Stand.

Narancia often gets into trouble, but he's clever and can use Aerosmith in unexpected ways. His Stand can drop a single bomb, track animals with their exhalations on a radar, and recon the area with its speed and high vantage point.
