Taika Waititi's Jojo Rabbit took home one of the top prizes at the Writers Guild Awards, winning the award for Adapted Screenplay. Waititi wrote and directed the film.

The joint ceremony took place on Saturday night at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, hosted by Ana Gasteyer, and the Edison Ballroom in New York, hosted by John Fugelsang.

"Writing is the hardest part of it for me and the loneliest part of it," Waititi told The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet before winning the award. "It's the part where you feel like you're just doing it all by yourself and for me it's the least collaborative part because I usually write alone. To get recognized, anything like that, from writers and from your peers, and from the writing community, I guess it feels more special to me because it's probably, of all the things I do, I'd say it's the thing that I hadn't really imagined myself as a writer. I don't describe myself as a writer, so actual writers, who are really good at writing, support you in this way, makes me feel part of the cool club."

Waititi's next film is Next Goal Wins, an adaptation of the 2014 British documentary, which follows a Dutch coach who takes the American Samoa soccer team from a national disgrace to World Cup qualifiers contenders. He will follow that with Thor: Love and Thunder.

Written and directed by Taika Waititi, Jojo Rabbit stars Roman Griffin Davis as Jojo Betzler, Thomasin McKenzie as Elsa Korr, Taika Waititi as Adolf Hitler, Rebel Wilson as Fraulein Rahm, Stephen Merchant as Captain Deertz, Alfie Allen as Finkel, Sam Rockwell as Captain Klenzendorf and Scarlett Johansson Rosie Betzler.
