In one corner we have the 2007 film, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood. An adaptation of the original JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga part, Phantom Blood. This film was created by A.P.P and given a limited theatrical release. Sadly, it has since disappeared and is considered a piece of lost media.

In the other corner, we have an adaptation of the same classic manga that was released in 2012. It was created by David Production and ushered in a new era of bizarre adventures. With this list, we'll be looking at what made the infamous film amazing and what the anime did way better than it.

10 THE MOVIE: ART STYLE

How could you forget that sick and original art style Studio A.P.P.P used on their legendary OVA adaptation of Stardust Crusaders? There's just something great about seeing JoJo's in a new art style, especially when it's much different from the original while still being fitting like Studio A.P.P.P's style. With as iconic as the Stardust Crusaders OVA have become, it's hard to imagine this being the polar opposite in terms of reception.

If only there were more than 16 minutes of screentime available so we could see more than the intro scene. Even with this shortcoming, it's easy to see that this art style better suits Phantom Blood over the 2012 one.

9 THE ANIME: ANIMATION

David Production's gift to mankind was releasing this amazing adaptation, kickstarting a new craze for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure on a global scale. One of the best and most raved parts of said adaptation was the great animation. The movements are done flawlessly and it feels as if we're literally watching the manga in motion due to the lengths that David Productions went through to give us this anime.

Thanks to this successful labor of love many were introduced to a great series. The rest is history.

8 THE MOVIE: THEME SONG

Funny enough, many consider this to be the absolute best thing to come from the limited supply of material that we actually got from the film. That honestly isn't saying so much due to that limited supply only being two trailers and 16 minutes of the film accompanied by nothing but music. No dialogue and no sound effects.

Anyway, this theme song is one part of this lost film that everyone loves. It's a song created to be the theme for the film and Dio Brando by the Japanese hip hop group Soul'd Out called "Voodoo Kingdom."

7 THE ANIME: OPENING SEQUENCE

Come on there is no way you didn't get hooked in by that godlike theme song and opening animation that accompanies it. The opening was made in a way that it takes everything that is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and mashes it all into one. Setting things up to let you know that this is the beginning of an epic tale that lasts for generations.

The theme that accompanies said intro sequence does the same, making it the perfect combo.

6 THE MOVIE: UNIQUENESS

Unlike most of the new JoJo's Bizarre Adventure anime adaptations that we are so used to nowadays, the OVAs of old by A.P.P.P weren't as accurate as possible. This can be seen with the Stardust Crusaders OVA where much of the story and lots of the villains were cut out to get as much fluff out the movie as possible. The Phantom Blood OVA took this to the next level by removing characters important to the plot of the part.

These characters include faces such as Speedwagon, Poco, Dire, Straizo, leaving it at 90 minutes.

5 THE ANIME: ACCURACY TO THE ORIGINAL

Unlike the OVA that came before it, the David Productions take on Phantom Blood was a complete and perfect adaptation on the original manga. This gives those new to the series a perfect updated way to enjoy the series in its full form. It also gives fans of the original manga a new and updated way to experience a timeless classic that they've been acquainted with for a long while.

This is the best way to go with an adaptation. The original is a masterpiece for a reason.

4 THE MOVIE: THE CHARACTER DESIGNS

To go right along with the art style, the character designs take incredible inspiration from the original manga appearances of the characters. While this seems like an obvious decision, it's one that David Production didn't follow for the 2012 anime adaptation for Phantom Blood for characters like the blue-haired Jonathan Joestar.

While the 2012 anime still looks great and the characters are often seen with weird hair colors, the 2007 movie looks like it was taken straight off that first volume's cover art in the cases of Jonathan and Dio.

3 THE ANIME: PRODUCTION COMPANY BEHIND IT

Have you noticed how much we were gushing about David Productions? Well, that's for a good reason. This Japanese animation studio puts their heart, sweat, and tears into whatever series they get their hands on and present both longtime and new fans with a great viewing experience.

It truly feels like this is the best series this amazing anime production company has worked on which is why they are so well known for it. Maybe one day each part will be adapted by these guys.

2 THE MOVIE: THE ACTION

From the short bit of action we can actually see from the film's trailer, this 2007 movie adaptation was looking to take off from where A.P.P.P's Stardust Crusaders OVA adaptation left off. The action sequences in this film were looking to be cooler and grittier than those in the 2012 anime which focused more on stylistic choices during the action.

We'd love to be able to see more of the fights from the film. Sadly we don't even get to see clips Jonathan vs. Dio, which is sure to be a sick action sequence.

1 THE ANIME: THE CHARACTERS

Honestly, this shouldn't even have to be a point because it is expected of any adaptation to include everything important from the source material and in the case of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, characters are everything. Sadly, this wasn't the case for A.P.P.P's cinematic adaptation of Phantom Blood, with characters like Speedwagon being left out.

Like we said earlier these character exclusions leave tons of plotholes and in turn, give the anime yet another one-up on its theatrical brother.
