JoJo: The 10 Most Memeworthy Dio Quotes

Jojo's Bizarre Adventures, much more than Naruto, much more than One Piece, much more than Death Note and especially Bleach, is a series that owns up to its own name. "Bizarre" is the appropriate word to describe everything that this beloved series has come to embody, whether that means its distinct color palette, beyond human mannerisms, or the menagerie of Stands that seem less curated and more like the result of a random word generator.

In an age where the strange and unique is prime meme bait, this series picked the right time to get an anime. However, if there was one person to thank for all of the series' memeability, it wouldn't be creator Hirohiko Araki or even the Jojo's themselves. It's the living personification of being over that is Dio Brando. In honor of the man who has defined what everyone loves so much about this series, this list will run down some of Dio's most memeworthy quotes.

10 It was me, Dio!

Starting off this list is the phrase that started it all. How many fans out there have gotten into Jojo just from the pure curiosity of finding out what this meme means? As great of a line that this quote has become, what really sells it isn't the content itself. The phrase is very simple.

What makes it so memeworthy is the shameless candor that Dio gives to it, showing off the uncanny pride and showmanship that only a classic, cartoony villain like Dio is capable of. It's an incredible fusion of surprise, pride, and even deadpan that makes saying this phrase just incredibly fun.

9 Oh? You're approaching me?

Updating his meme lexicon a bit, Dio's most recent, classic entry to the annals of the internet is from his ever memorable stint at the end of Stardust Crusaders. Having built himself up as the near unstoppable beast that he is, Dio becomes a little surprised by Jotaro's unaffected willingness to still confront him.

However, he doesn't say in a normal way like, "How dare you challenge me!" or "Oh! You're not scared?" Dio draws attention to the weirdest aspect of it when he says, "Oh? You're approaching me?" Of all the things he could've said against Jotaro, Dio comments on the walking part, which, in all honesty, is one the coolest things in the series.

8 Are you really trying to shoot me? I like you.

However, as prime memes have been born from the couple of phrases above, there are still quite a few underrated phrases to have ever graced his vampire tongue that have yet to breach the meme threshold.

One such phrase that embodies his over confidence comes from his interaction with Hol Horse, as the terrified cowboy, in an effort to save himself, tries to shoot at Dio...fruitlessly. Does Dio get mad, though? No, he praises Hol Horse, as if he just made a risky joke instead of, like, try to kill him.

7 The more carefully you scheme, the more unexpected events come along.

If there was ever something to define a meme, beyond, like, just weird and funny phrases, it is its ability to relate to the viewer and memer. From there, the internet comes across "I feel that." or "So true..." moments that begin to spark a variety of reconstructions of that relatable philosophy.

One such phrase from Dio that could absolutely be beloved by the awkwardness and shared insecurity of the internet is the above sentiment, something that could be used to relate to school projects, party planning, or, in Dio's case, trying to rule the world with a vampire army.

6 Wryyyyy!

If there was ever something that meme lords love, it's funny noises and onomatopoeia. Not so much a quote as it is a battle cry or, more likely, gas involuntarily leaving Dio's mouth, Dio's "Wryyyyy!" noise embodies all the emotion that old comic book sound effects or the senseless mashing of keyboard buttons could only hope to create.

Seeing Dio do this mid-battle just makes one think what Japan thinks a battle cry should sound like. However, seeing the type of monsters and warriors like Dio that they can imagine up, they might be on to something.

5 How many breads have you eaten in your life?

Shame on the internet for not bringing enough attention to the fact that Dio asked another adult, "How many breads have you eaten in your life?" with all the candor of a legitimate threat. For those wondering or don't remember the scene, Dio is comparing with this phrase how many humans he's sucked the blood out of, either killing or transforming them.

While using bread as a common comparison for a large quantity, it's still an awfully distinct one to think of on the spot, and it's amazing that he still made "bread" sound evil.

4 I reject my humanity, Jojo!

Unto to clearer cavalier moments of anime villainy, Dio's descent into the vampire life was not only dramatic to see. It also spawned a variety of top tier villain lines for Dio to spurt out. If there was ever a prime example of someone being "arch," it would be every step or breath that Dio has ever took.

With that confidence and panache comes an ability to make generic, villain quotes sound genuine, such as his iconic line, "I reject my humanity, Jojo!" It's over. It's melodramatic. It's exactly what the meme world wants.

3 Muda! Muda! Muda! Muda! Muda!

Going back to funny sounds one can make to annoy their best friend, Dio's fight against Joseph Joestar sparked an absolutely incredible one. Beyond a variety of other distinct Japanese lines, this phrase here more than makes watching the Japanese dub worth it, as hearing Dio shout out "Muda! Muda! Muda!" sounds all the more ridiculous and epic than just "Useless! Useless! Useless!" One of the series' best battle cries and opposite of Jotaro's "Ora! Ora! Ora!," "Muda!" easily makes this for checking all the boxes for fun sounds to hear and say.

2 Road roller da!

Battle animes are infamous for their variety of over-the-top moves and the oddly titled and, for some reason, clearly exclaimed names that go with them. This includes Goku's "Kamehameha!," Monkey D. Luffy's "Gum Gum Pistol!," or even Naruto's "Rasengan!" or "Shadow clone jiutsu!"

However, if there was ever an attack to stand out from the rest, it would be Dio Brando's totally random but ever iconic throwing of a road roller against Jotaro Kugo. To which, he simply yet passionately exclaims, "Road roller da!," as if this was a martial arts move that would need a mantra.

1 Za warudo!

Standing tall above all the phrases and noises to have ever been breathed from Dio like red hot fire, "Za warudo!" makes the pinnacle of this list as well as any anime catchphrase ever. It's a distinct yet ever impressionable pronunciation from the Japanese dub that, once again, puts the English's trying passion to shame, and it's so simple, that it's easy to bring up during a casual argument with a friend, way easier than pulling out a "Kamehamehamehameha!"

It can be attached shamelessly on most images, and it breeds a similar energy to Dio's "It was me, Dio!" quote. Much like everything else on this list, it's a welcome addition to the internet world.
