Araki's hard work has given us many memorable characters that are etched into the hearts of the fans. However, the fans can't bring themselves to like each and every character and that is not because they are designed in a bad way, but it is because of their personalities and their actions. And now, we will discuss five JoJo characters who are loved by the fans and five who are most hated.

Update October 14th, 2020 by Louis Kemner: Even though the anime has been finished for a couple of years now, the JoJo franchise is stronger than ever, and its zany and creative battle scenes never fail to win over new viewers. Many of the JoJo characters are unforgettable shonen gems like Joseph Joestar and Josuke Higashikata, but other characters are so cruel, despicable or just strange that the viewers can't connect with them at all. That, or some characters appear so briefly, and in such uninteresting ways, they end up at the bottom of the heap. Let's review a few more characters.

15 Loved: Joseph Joestar

Joseph Joestar

Joseph Joestar is the protagonist of the Battle Tendency story arc. He became a fan favorite from the very first episode. Joseph is not the bravest man despite his huge size.

He is a very funny character and he never fails to disappoint the fans. Joseph is one of the few characters that fight with their brains instead of their brute strength. He also appeared in Stardust Crusaders and Diamond is Unbreakable. His role in the latter was very limited, but in part 3 Joseph was one of the main characters.

14 Hated: Kars

Kars was one of the Pillar Men. He was naturally much stronger and intelligent than regular human beings. he was the one who made the Stone Mask in order to transcend the boundaries.

He was able to realize his dream of becoming the "Perfect Being." Kars' could modify parts of his body and this allowed him to get out any difficult situation. However, Kars had no honor unlike his partners Esidisi and Wamuu. He played dirty against Lisa Lisa and stabbed her. A lot of fans agree that he's the worst main villain in the JoJo series.

13 Loved: Gyro Zeppeli

Gyro Zeppeli from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

Gyro Zeppeli is one of the main characters from Steel Ball Run. He is a very interesting character and arguably the best character created by Araki. Gyro participated in the Steel Ball Run in order to save the life of a boy.

He had mastered the "Spin" which had been passed down in the Zeppeli Family for generations. Gyro helped Johnny to achieve his dream and he also taught Johnny to use the Golden Spin.

12 Hated: Angelo

Angelo is a minor antagonist from the Diamond is Unbreakable story arc. He is a sick and sordid person who has done a lot of nasty things. Angelo was supposed to be executed in prison, but he was saved by Nijimura Keicho.

Keicho shot Angelo with the arrow and that enabled him to awaken his stand. Angelo used his newly gained powers to escape from the prison. He continued to commit the gravest of sins in the outside world, but his activities came to a screeching halt after Josuke used his Crazy Diamond to turn Angelo into a rock.

11 Loved: Jotaro Kujo

Jotaro posing with Star Platinum

Next up on the list is Jotaro Kujo. Jotaro is the grandson of Joseph Joestar, and Jotaro was the main character of the  Stardust Crusaders story arc. He possesses Star Platinum ,which is one of the most powerful stands in the series. Its melee power is devastating, and it later learned to freeze time to an extent.

This gives Jotaro an advantage in most of his fights. Jotaro also plays important roles in part 4, and part 6. Despite his looks, Jotaro is a very smart character, and while he might be arrogant, deep down he cares about his friends and family a great deal.

10 Hated: Cioccolata

Cioccolata was a part of Diavolo's personal guard. Diavolo had great trust in Cioccolata and his partner, Secco. He put them in charge of stopping Bruno Bucciarati and his gang. Ciccolata had a twisted personality and he used to torture people when he was a doctor.

He joined Passione and gained an incredible stand. Ciccolata's stand was called Green Day and it formed a deadly combo with Secco's Oasis. With his stand, Cioccolata was able to separate parts of his body without any serious repercussions.

9 Loved: DIO

Dio Brando in the Phantom Blood arc using Vampire Status in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

Dio Brando or simply DIO is the most iconic character from the series along with Jotaro Kujo. DIO fought against three generations of Joestars and he caused them a lot of pain and agony. He killed Jonathan Joestar and Joseph Joestar albeit the latter was revived by Jotaro.

Despite being a villain, DIO is loved a lot by the fans. He has been a crucial part of almost every JoJo part. DIO's malevolent personality and the insane amount of memes earned him a huge fan base. He might not be the best villain in the series, but he is certainly the most loved one.

8 Hated: Thunder McQueen

Ermes Costello caught in Highway to Hell trap by Stand User Thunder McQueen

Out of the many antagonists in Stone Ocean Thunder McQueen is arguably the worst one. Thunder McQueen has suicidal tendencies and after getting a stand from Enrico Pucci, he tried to get rid of Ermes Costello. McQueen could only commit suicide and it was really annoying to see.

His stand is not that great either. His stand transferred the effects of his suicide onto his target. So, in order to eliminate someone he needed to kill himself as well.

7 Loved: Josuke Higashikata

Josuke is the main protagonist of part 4. He is the son of Joseph Joestar. Josuke is akin to Jonathan Joestar. Both of them hate killing anyone no matter what.

He didn't even kill Yoshikage Kira even though he had committed heinous crimes. Josuke's personality resembles that of a regular high school student and this allowed the fans to relate to him more than the previous JoJo protagonists. Josuke is more human than any other Joestar.

6 Hated: Boom Boom Family

The Boom Boom Family were a group of minor antagonists in Steel Ball Run. The Boom Boom Family consisted of Andre, Benjamin and L.A. Boom Boom. The family was hired by another country in order to get rid of Johnny and Gyro. The Boom Boom Family had a stand which is shared between its members.

Their stand was known as Tomb of the Boom. They killed two participants with the help of their stand. The family was taken out by Johnny's newly awakened stand called Tusk.

5 Loved: Guido Mista

Mista prepares to shoot Sale on the truck in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind.

It's hard not to like Guido Mista, a member of Bruno Bucciarati's squad. For one thing, he's got a cool Airbender-style arrow on his hat, but his real charm lays with his combat abilities and likable personality. He's easy to get along with, and he quickly and warmly accepted Giorno Giovanna to the team (as opposed to Abbachio).

His stand is Sex Pistols, taking the form of six yellow beings that sit on bullets and guide them all over the place. This allows Mista to rank among the great snipers, gunslingers, and marksmen of the anime world.

4 Hated: J Geil

j geil jojo

The only flattering thing to say about J. Geil is that his stand, Hanged Man, is a scary one. It's a knife-wielding assassin that can appear out of reflective surfaces at will, and assassinate targets. But otherwise, J. Geil is revolting.

He is not only hideous, but he is cruel and merciless at all times. In fact, he used to commit unspeakable acts to innocent people and kill them, including Polnareff's sister. The world couldn't be rid of the curse of J. Geil soon enough.

3 Loved: Okuyasu Nijimura

okuyasu nijimura yelling - jojo's bizarre adventure

Every Joestar hero has a few friends by their side, and in the Diamond is Unbreakable story arc, Josuke made a friend in Okuyasu Nijimura. At first, Okuyasu was hostile, but he soon laid down his arms and extended the hand of friendship to Josuke.

That's big of him, and it paid off. Okuyasu may be dim, but he's hysterical to watch, from his emotional outbursts and silly crying to that scene where he ate stand-enhanced Italian food and had his bodily ailments cured one by one. He's also brave and loyal, risking his life to back Josuke up.

2 Hated: Steely Dan

steely dan

Fans might have forgotten about this Stardust Crusaders-era stand user, but if they remember him, they won't do it fondly. Steely Dan was nearly as cruel as J. Geil in some ways, since he used his stand, The Lovers, to control people under pain of death.

The Lovers was tiny, and could go inside the victim's head to hold them hostage. Steely Dan used that leverage to control Jotaro and force him to rob a jewelry store, and he humiliated Jotaro by actually walking all over him. What a creep.

1 Loved: Jean Pierre Polnareff

polnareff with silver chariot JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

To know Polnareff is to love him, no doubt about it. The only time he acted thuggish or mean was when DIO had a flesh bud in his head, and once it was removed, Polnareff proved himself a true friend. He's also really funny, just like Okuyasu.

Polnareff is the one who keeps having bathroom mishaps, and he often gets confused or lost. But he's smart and brave when it counts, and he scored a stunning victory by defeating Vanilla Ice. On top of that, his backstory is deeply sympathetic, striving to find and kill the monster who killed his beloved sister.
