Stands are a phenomenon in the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure universe that are physical manifestations of its user's spirit. Being extremely varied and not always even humanoid, the potential of Stands are wildly different from one user to the next.
Despite being bestowed with weak Stands, many users make the most of what they have, using their own intelligence and skills to compensate for their deficit in power. By acknowledging what a weak Stand can do in the hands of the correct owner, viewers can have a fuller appreciation for just how many creative uses they can be applied to.
10 Joseph Joestar
Joseph Joestar's "Hermit Purple" is an underwhelming Stand. Superficially, all it can do is propel him from one place to the next or strangle his opponents within its thorny, vicelike grasp. It pales in comparison to the raw power of the other Stardust Crusaders.
By infusing his vines with Hamon, Joseph can turn his Stand into an impervious shield, one that would make even Dio himself think twice about striking it. This is an incredibly clever tactic that few are capable to copy, given the exclusiveness of the technique.
9 Terunosuke
Terunosuke's "Enigma" Stand may seem like a horrifying force of evil, but it is ultimately only as powerful as the fear it is able to inflict in the hearts of its opponents. Against a completely stalwart foe with nothing to lose, it is essentially worthless since it cannot turn them into paper.
Because its user is so familiarized with the study of terror and how to inflict it on his enemies, he was capable of turning Josuke Higashikata into paper, an intrepid hero who is seldom afraid. This splendidly portrays the magnitude of his skill in intimidation.
8 D'arby The Gambler
D'arby the Gambler's "Osiris" Stand was much weaker than its host presented it as. Completely incapable of physical combat, all it could manage was to fairly claim the souls of those who agreed to play his game and lost.
Fortunately for the user, he was an excellent gamer and even more proficient at cheating and getting away with it. The gambler was able to outsmart almost the entirety of the Stardust Crusaders before finally being defeated by Jotaro Kujo's iron nerves, thereby liberating his entire collection of trapped souls.
7 Formaggio
Formaggio's "Little Feet" Stand was not notably deadly. While he could use it to shrink down his opponents until they were the size of insects, this was a gradual process and one he needed time to complete, rendering himself helpless in the interim.
Luckily for him, Formaggio was able to conceal himself in Narancia's clothing long enough to cause significant diminishment. A less talented Stand user would have been caught immediately, ending the fight with a more lopsided outcome in the hero's favor. While Formaggio would face a fiery death, he made the most of what he had.
6 Tiziano
In a direct fight, Tiziano's "Talking Head" Stand would be worthless. All it does is change its victim's words to mean the opposite of their intention.
However, because he teamed up with Squalo, the two men were able to combine their talents, nearly taking out Bucciarati's team by using Narancia as an unwitting pawn. Though they would ultimately fail, Tiziano's resourcefulness rendered what should have been an immediate victory for Giorno into one of the most difficult challenges he had faced so far.
5 Mariah
Mariah's Stand turned anyone who touched it into magnets, attracting all metal in the vicinity and pinning it to their bodies. While this was not a breathtakingly useful ability, she was able to fool both Joseph and Avdol into falling under her power, humiliating them publicly as a result.
Moreover, Mariah came prepared with personal equipment to compliment her Stand. Her bra contains a number of metal trinkets that she uses as deadly projectiles, attracted to their targets by the effects of her power. Were it not for Joestar's resourcefulness and teamwork with Muhammad, Mariah may have overcome two Crusaders by herself.
4 Pesci
Despite Pesci's dopey voice and blundering mannerisms, his skill with his Stand was enough to nearly force Bucciarati to kill himself. With no defense or survivability to speak of, his success hinges entirely on his affinity with his fishing pole.
While his brother may have been more experienced, Pesci would ultimately outlast him in their battle against Giorno's team, with the fateful train ride boiling down to a reckoning between himself and Bruno. Even at the severe disadvantage of direct combat, Pesci was only seconds away from annihilating the team for good.
3 Toyohiro
Toyohiro's "Super Fly" Stand was just as much of a hindrance as it was an assistant in his fight against Yoshikage Kira's enemies. It was a gigantic tower that imprisoned anyone who entered, allowing its previous occupant to leave.
Because of his strategic maneuvering, Toyohiro used the structure itself to attack Josuke, Okuyasu, and Hazekura. Were it not for the restorative properties of Shining Diamond and Higashikata's natural tenacity, Toyohiro could have even struck a victory without having his Stand assist him in close quarters combat.
2 Narancia
Narancia's "Little Bomber" was comparatively weaker to other Stands that relied on bullets. He did not have the precision of Mistah, the heat sinking properties of Hol Horse, or even the rapid-fire assaulting potential of Keicho.
Still, Narancia's Stand had one factor that he was able to capitalize on magnificently; it could track the heat signatures of those in the area. This would be an excellent utility in hunting down his opponents and would spell the difference between victory and defeat in virtually every fight he triumphed in. In the hands of a less competent user, they would not be able to use his detection screen as effectively since they could not accurately interpret the results.
1 Yukako
From a passing glance, Yukako's hair Stand would not be a viable adversary. It isn't physically powerful (as proven through Koichi's success in barricading her out of her own house), and it is not as swift as many of the other threats seen in Diamond Is Unbreakable.
Yukako's exceptional power is sampled through the way she can plant her hair on others and use it to bind them. Through this tactic, she was able to pin Koichi to the ceiling and nearly defeated him.
