Johns, Finch team for second Justice League title next year

For months fans have wondered about an image shown at the end of DC Comics' Free Comic Book Day offering from this past May. It featured the current Justice League fighting with several other heroes-some of whom, like Green Arrow, were hinted at being members of the League at some point. Others, like Vibe and a new Green Lantern, were just that-new to comics altogether or hadn't yet been seen in DC's New 52.

DC Comics offered at least some clarity today at Fan Expo Canada, when they announced that "Justice League" will get a sister title-"Justice League of America," written by Geoff Johns and drawn by David Finch. According to DC's The Source blog, the title will launch in 2013 and will feature many of the characters from that image, plus a few more--Green Arrow, Katana, Martian Manhunter, the new Green Lantern, Stargirl, Vibe, Hawkman and Catwoman.

"This is a very different kind of team book," Johns said. "On first glance, people might think the heroes of the 'Justice League of America' stand in the shadows of Superman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the Justice League, but Green Arrow, Katana, Martian Manhunter, the new Green Lantern, Stargirl, Vibe, Hawkman and Catwoman thrive in the shadows. They're underdogs who have everything to prove and something to lose. They're a team of unlikely heroes who will help one another discover they're as A-List as anybody -- yes, even Vibe. Though getting there won't be easy. Why they're formed, why each member joins, what they're after and who the society of villains is they're trying to take apart will all be clear in the first issue when it hits early 2013. David and I are really focused on delving deep into what it's like to not be a member of the big seven and why, sometimes, the grass isn't always greener on the other side."

In an interview with MTV Geek, Johns went on to say that the team will be run by A.R.G.U.S., and each member will want something from Steve Trevor and "the other person behind the scenes that's in charge of this team." The first arc will focus on The Secret Society of Super-Villains.
