Johnny Depp is taking a stand against cancel culture -- and he wants others to do the same.

At the San Sebastian Film Festival, Depp said he was the victim of cancel culture, calling it "this instant rush to judgement based on what essentially amounts to polluted air." "It’s so far out of hand now that I can promise you that no one is safe. Not one of you. No one out that door. No one is safe," he continued. "It takes one sentence and there’s no more ground, the carpet has been pulled. It’s not just me that this has happened to, it’s happened to a lot of people. This type of thing has happened to women, men. Sadly at a certain point they begin to think that it’s normal. Or that it’s them. When it’s not."

"When there’s an injustice, whether it’s against you or someone you love, or someone you believe in – stand up, don’t sit down. ‘Cause they need you," Depp added.

Depp's comments stem from the fallout of his messy divorce with Aquaman star Amber Heard. While both are said to have abused one another, Depp's acting career was the only one to take a hit when Warner Bros. asked him to step down from Fantastic Beasts 3. This was shortly after Depp lost a libel case against The Sun over a headline that referred to him as a "wife beater." While the actor reportedly called on Warner Bros. to remove Heard from Aquaman, no action was taken, and Heard is slated to reprise her role as Mera in the now-filming sequel.

In August, Depp claimed he was being blacklisted as a result of his issues with Heard. "Some films touch people and this affects those in Minamata and people who experience similar things," he explained. "And for anything... for Hollywood's boycott of me? One man, one actor in an unpleasant and messy situation, over the last number of years?"

The situation between Heard and Depp has spawned multiple petitions, including one to bring Depp back as Captain Jack Sparrow in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and another to remove Heard from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The former has received over 650,000 signatures while the latter is just shy of 2 million.
