DC Comcis announced in a press release today the return of their classic mascot Johnny DC with a new design and purpose - to serve as the marketing brand for all DC Kids titles. DC included a look at the covers for the September release books as well as the three different logos to be used on each book.

Official Press Release

This July, DC Comics' mascot Johnny DC makes his first comic book appearance in years on the cover of the Free Comic Book Day edition of TEEN TITANS GO! #1 (APR040018). The issue marks the start of a comeback for the character, who will appear on DC's all-ages titles beginning in September (and with the solicitation for those titles in the July issue of Previews, Volume XIV #7).

The new version of the character has been designed by Rian Hughes, noted designer and illustrator.

"We're working hard to make comics that are fun for new and younger readers," says Dan DiDio, DC's VP - Editorial. "We are introducing the new Johnny DC as the mascot of the kids' line to host the newly reinstated letters pages that encourage kids to write in and interact with our characters."

"I'm a huge fan of Rian's work, and he's really outdone himself with this design," says Mark Chiarello, DC's Editorial Art Director. "The new Johnny DC has a bright, distinctive look that will really stand out in the stores."

Following the Free Comic Book Day edition of TEEN TITANS GO! #1 (APR040018), Johnny DC will appear in these September in-store titles:

  • BATMAN STRIKES #1
  • CARTOON CARTOONS BLOCK PARTY #1
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED #1
  • LOONEY TUNES #118
