Since 2014 action flick John Wick exceeded expectations at the box office, the franchise has spawned two film sequels, comic books and even an upcoming Starz television spinoff titled The Continental. However, it looks like The Continental might be missing one key figure. Ian McShane, who plays the hotel's manager Winston in the movies, revealed that he doesn't plan to appear on the show.

Asked if he would appear on the series, McShane told RottenTomatoes, "No, but I may give ’em a voiceover. A series, no. They talked about that."

There could be several reasons for this, chief among them is that John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum isn't out yet; until it drops, we don't know what will happen with McShane's character. It's a very real possibility that Winston could be dead by the time the third movie is over, leading to the hotel finding new management.

This could also be the result of McShane's schedule. Over the next couple of months, Ian McShane will appear in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the second season of American Gods, jazz legend Buddy Bolden's biopic Bolden, the new Hellboy movie and the long-awaited Deadwood capper on HBO.

Despite a lack of involvement from McShane, Lance Reddick -- who plays Charon in the films -- has expressed interest in returning to the role for The Continental, though nothing has been confirmed thus far. Keanu Reeves is expected to make an appearance on the series, but the focal point will be the hotel itself, which is ripe for story potential and can introduce new characters from episode to episode in an organic way.

Chris Collins, whose previous credits include The Wire, Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Sons of Anarchy, will write the series and serve as showrunner. He will also act as an executive producer along with John Wick co-directors David Leitch and Chad Stahelski, franchise screenwriter Derek Kolstad and Keanu Reeves.

Written by Derek Kolstad and directed by Chad Stahelski, John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum releases on May 17, 2019 in the United States. It will star Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, Laurence Fishburne, Halle Berry, Jason Mantzoukas, Jerome Flynn, Robin Lord Taylor, Anjelica Huston, and NBA big man Boban Marjanovic.
