WARNING: The following contains spoilers for John Wick: Chapter 3 -- Parabellum, in theaters now.

The John Wick franchise isn't really known for intricate or in-depth storytelling. It's all about high-octane action with bullets and explosions galore, so it's expected that, as the story moves at breakneck speed, some plot holes will emerge.

John Wick: Chapter 3 -- Parabellum introduces a few key ones that highlight that, as enjoyable as the movie is, it's narrative isn't exactly bulletproof.

THE DUMB CONTINENTAL DEFENSE

After being pardoned by the Elder, Keanu Reeves' John Wick returns to the New York Continental to kill Winston (Ian McShane) as part of the deal. He decides against murdering his old friend, and so, the hotel is deemed "deconsecrated," which leads to the High Table sending its elite soldiers to kill everyone. John and Charon (Lance Reddick) head to the arsenal room, where they lock and load in preparation for the showdown with their assailants' bullet-resistant armor.

The heroes nevertheless take out the first wave, and barely make it out alive themselves. They move back to the weapons room to recharge and formulate a new plan, as Charon's foot soldiers have all been killed, only for Charon to reveal he has armor-piercing rounds in stock. It's a convenient, magical turn of the plot, not to mention one that casts Charon in a dim light.

BENDING THE CONCEPT OF SAFE HAVEN

After John's "excomunicado" status is overturned, he comes under attack by Mark Dacascos' Zero, the chief assassin hired by the High Table. They engage in an epic bike chase, which ends with John being flung from his motorcycle onto the pavement. But just as Zero is about to kill John, he places his hand on the Continental steps, which leads to Charon demanding Zero put away his weapon, seeing as John is under their care.

Zero abides, but it's a huge flaw in the plot, because only John knew he was no longer "excommunicado." The Elder didn't notify anyone because, if John's amnesty were revealed, then the conditions of it would be too. That means Charon would know John was coming to kill Winston, so it wouldn't make sense to house him. Also, there's no reason to offer him asylum, because John is still fair game, and as far as the High Table goes, nothing has changed. That means Zero could have slaughtered John then and there.

ZERO'S ILLOGICAL PLAN OF ATTACK

When the High Table's elite try to wipe out John, Zero actually helps the protagonist, if only because he wants John to die by his sword. However, after the High Table's soldiers are killed, as John attempts to reach Zero in the Continental's war room, the villain directs his students to attempt to kill the Baba Yaga.

They try to slice him to pieces, which gets even more ridiculous as we see Zero watching and enjoying it. His skilled legion puts John through the wringer, so it makes no sense to have them take him on. Apparently, Zero forgot he told John they need to finish their beef one on one, all to raise the stakes. Zero's forgetfulness could have robbed him of the finale against the Boogeyman he clamored for from the beginning.

Directed by Chad Stahelski, John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum stars Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne, Halle Berry, Jason Mantzoukas, Lance Reddick and Anjelica Huston.
