John Wick: Chapter 4 keeps getting rave reviews ahead of its release as the neo-noir thriller shoots down previous franchise marks.

A quick peek on Rotten Tomatoes shows Chapter 4 boasting a 93 percent critical rating from 96 reviews at the time of writing, a new high for the John Wick film series. According to the critical consensus on the review aggregator website, "John Wick: Chapter 4 piles on more of everything -- and suggests that when it comes to a well-dressed Keanu Reeves dispatching his enemies in lethally balletic style, there can never be too much."

Previously, the original John Wick, released in 2014, garnered an 86 percent critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, 2017's Chapter 2 and 2019's Chapter 3 - Parabellum each scored an 89 percent rating on the website. While the audience scores have yet to arrive for Chapter 4, the previous three movies also delivered in that department, with the first film attracting an 81 percent rating from viewers, Chapter 2 getting 85 percent and Chapter 3 - Parabellum boasting an 86 percent score.

The Biggest John Wick Film Yet

News of John Wick 4's collective approval among critics reflects reports of the upcoming film receiving highly encouraging reviews, with the Chad Stahelski-directed movie being hailed as the best yet in the series. Its action, Reeves' performance as the titular hitman and Bill Skarsgård's showing as the High Table's menacing frontman, Marquis de Gramont, received praise from critics. The movie sees John try to win his freedom from the High Table, with various battles and missions taking him worldwide as the price on his head keeps increasing.

Not only have the critical and audience scores improved with each installment of the John Wick franchise but John Wick: Chapter 4 is on track to establish a series-high mark at the box office. Early opening weekend projections for the action project have Chapter 4 making anywhere between $60 and $70 million domestically, beating Chapter 3 - Parabellum's current record of $56.8 million during its premiere. To date, the John Wick franchise has earned over $585 million worldwide, with the threequel being its biggest earner by some distance, grossing over $327.3 million in global ticket sales.

Chapter 4 sees Reeves and Skarsgård star alongside Donnie Yen, Laurence Fishburne and Ian McShane in what could be the final John Wick flick, though Reeves and Stahelski have remained open to the possibility of another movie down the line. The film will also feature one of the final performances by the late Lance Reddick, who played the hotel concierge Charon in all four John Wick movies, as well as the upcoming spinoff, Ballerina. Reddick passed away from natural causes at his Los Angeles area home on March 17, aged 60.

John Wick: Chapter 4 opens in theaters on March 24.
