John Wick is on the run for his life as filming officially began this week on the third installment of the hit revenge franchise.
In an Instagram post by returning cinematographer Dan Laustsen, Keanu Reeves' eponymous contract killer is seen navigating the neon-lit streets of New York's Chinatown, ready to take on potential threats lurking in the city's ominous shadows. Production of John Wick: Chapter 3 kicked off Saturday, as revealed in an earlier photo posted by the Academy Award-nominated cinematographer.
With returning director Chad Stahelski, Chapter 3 reportedly begins immediately following the cliffhanger events of 2017's Chapter 2, which saw Wick on the run in New York City after killing a member of the clandestine assassin society's High Table. As this murder occurred on the grounds of the assassin safe haven the Continental, Wick is excommunicated from his former allies and must fight his way out of New York with a $14 million open contract on his head.
Series star Keanu Reeves will be reunited with actors Common and Ruby Rose as rival assassins Cassian and Ares, respectively. Laurence Fishburne also returns as Wick's occasional ally, the Bowery King, who leads a different secret society in New York. They are joined by newcomer Hiroyuki Sanada, who previously appeared alongside Reeves in 47 Ronin.
John Wick: Chapter 3 opens May 17, 2019.
