The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (TFATWS) provided fans with a lot of background and character development for Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. In addition to exploring the lives of two characters who were previously sequestered to the role of sidekick, TFATWS explores the lives of some of the lesser-known characters in the MCU as well as some new ones.

While the leading ladies Karli Morgenthau, Sharon Carter, and Val were given good amounts of screen time, Baron Zemo and John Walker really stole the show. Not much was known about Zemo previously and this show does an excellent job of making him likable and providing context to his history. John Walker is introduced in this show, and despite being painted as a villain, ended up being a fan-favorite character.

10 Walker: Genuinely Seems Like A Good Guy

While it's made apparent that Walker didn't want to be the new Captain America, he does his best to play the part and even offers multiple olive branches to the old Cap's best buds. Walker also bails Bucky out of jail when he misses his court-appointed therapy session.

After he takes the serum, he has a brief adjustment period, but he still tries to do what he thinks is right. He even gave up the opportunity to seek revenge against Karli (for killing Lamar) to save a truck full of government officials before they fell to their doom.

9 Zemo: The Zemo Dance

The moment this dance move premiered, it nearly broke the internet with memes and hour-long video loops. As Zemo is always seen as a calculating tactician, it was great for fans to see him cut loose a little bit, especially considering he had been imprisoned for the better part of the last seven years.

All jokes aside, seeing Zemo dance like this really helped him feel more relatable after having been revealed to be exorbitantly wealthy. Even when one is as powerful and has as much clout as Zemo, they can still be a big goof like the regular folk.

8 Walker: Stands Up To The Government

Fans respect John Walker for saying what they were all thinking during his smear campaign of a trial. After they stripped him of his title and all of his previously accrued military benefits, Walker bravely spoke out against the government in court.

He also stormed off when the guys in ties refused to acknowledge their failings or even meet him halfway. They even had the gall to demand the shield from Walker, despite having no legal authority to do so. Finally seeing someone speak to high-ranking officials the way they deserve in the MCU was truly refreshing.

7 Zemo: Being a Baron Has Its Perks

Fans remember Zemo as an unassuming man, hell-bent on getting revenge against the Avengers for the death of his family. However, fans come to find out that Zemo is in fact a Baron, as his comic name would suggest, and has bountiful resources available to him, Sam, and Bucky for use on their mission.

Zemo has cars, money, weapons, disguises, multiple safe houses, a loyal servant, and a private jet, all of which come in handy on multiple occasions. If Zemo weren't an international criminal, he would be living his best life in his lavish and sprawling mansion.

6 Walker: Puts In The Effort, Even Makes Himself A New Shield

Even after being stripped of the title of Captain America, John Walker goes as far as to make his own shield and briefly retains the mantle to redeem his honor. Even before his public disgrace, he is shown trying as hard as he can to live up to the expectations of everyone else.

He is clearly well-practiced with the shield, proven by his promo videos during his Good Morning America interview. He is also repeatedly told by his friends and allies that he consistently makes the right decisions and that his work ethic and track record were why he was chosen to be the new Cap.

5 Zemo: Always The Man With The Plan

Zemo is an excellent villain because he is a spectacular tactician that is always several steps ahead of his foes. Despite having no real superpowers whatsoever, he manages to almost single-handedly tear the Avengers apart from within just using a well-timed revelation.

While he did end up getting captured, despite trying to kill himself to avoid punishment, Zemo is the type to always have a trick or two up his sleeve. He managed to break out of prison surprisingly easily after Bucky came to visit and also appeared to have an open line of communication with the outside world while incarcerated.

4 Walker: Has A Rewarding Character Arc

Different sides of John Walker from TFATWS

From start to finish, many fans felt the TFATWS was a story about John Walker more than Bucky or Sam. A new and likable, highly respected career military man struggles to live up to the name of Captain America. In the process, he loses his best friend, a part of his sanity, and his status in the government.

When he's on his last leg, Val arrives and provides Walker with a redemption opportunity which he uses to redeem himself in the final battle of the series. While the show was truly about Sam and Bucky, Walker has earned a place in the hearts of fans and will certainly be back under his new mantle of U.S. Agent.

3 Zemo: Saves The Day When Viewers Least Expect It

Being an outright villain, fans have a hard time trusting Zemo, but he proves his merit multiple times throughout TFATWS. After he kills Dr. Nagel, the team must escape the incoming shower of bullets from the hitmen trying to track down the bounty for Selby's killer.

Zemo immediately takes off in the other direction, and when fans think he's escaped, he reappears with his purple mask and saves Bucky, Sam, and Sharon from the attack. He also always seems to have something when they need it, such as a getaway car, a plane for international travel, or a conveniently located safe house when they need to lay low.

2 Walker: Becomes U.S. Agent

John Walker becomes U.S. Agent

Fans loved seeing Walker finally don the classic black uniform from the comics, and Val even mentioned U.S. Agent by name. While it isn't officially his moniker yet, all roads seem to be leading there for whenever Walker reappears in the MCU.

The recently announced Captain America 4 film would be an excellent place for Walker's next appearance; perhaps on his first official mission with the formal name of U.S. Agent. He could fight alongside Sam's Cap or perhaps end up in a villainous role, depending on which organization Val works for.

1 Zemo: Still In A Position Of Power From Behind Bars

Zemo on the Raft in TFATWS

Despite being in the supermax floating ocean pokey run by Ross, Zemo still manages to facilitate the assassination of the final remaining super-soldiers, except for Bucky, Walker... and Isaiah Bradley. Almost immediately after his butler successfully pulls the trigger, Zemo is secretly notified of the successful mission.

Despite being locked up, Zemo appears to be content in prison as he is still able to influence events on the outside world while no one appears to be the wiser. Perhaps Zemo will continue to operate things from behind the scenes or perhaps Ross will take notice and Zemo may be recruited for a less-than-heroic supergroup such as the Thunderbolts.
