Run, the long-awaited sequel to the autobiographical graphic novel series March by the late U.S. Rep. John Lewis, is coming this summer.

The first volume, published by Abrams ComicArts and Good Trouble Productions, will be released Aug. 3, The Washington Post reported. Where March covered Lewis' childhood and work in the civil rights movement, Run goes into the years after the Voting Rights Act was passed, which by itself did not end the struggle and set the seeds for Lewis choosing a political career after losing the chairmanship of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee.

Andrew Aydin, who collaborated with Lewis on both projects, told the Post, "The reason it's called Run is because first you march, then you run. It's about showing how a young person like John Lewis can go from being well-known but seen as largely radical by the vast majority of the American republic to being a public servant." Aydin was Lewis' digital communications director. Illustrator Nate Powell returns for the sequel, joined by artist L. Fury.

Lewis, who was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1987, announced he had Stage 4 pancreatic cancer in December 2019 and died in July 2020. March, which was published in three volumes from 2013 to 2016, was the first graphic novel to win a National Book Award and won several American Library Association awards that typically go to prose publications.

Run: Book One, written by John Lewis and Andrew Aydin and illustrated by L. Fury and Nate Powell, arrives Aug. 3 from Abrams ComicArts.
