John Constantine is best known to fans as an acerbic, chain-smoking mage with a chip on his shoulder. The upcoming Hellblazer: Rise and Fall series will feature a new look at Constantine, apparently starting with his younger years.Writer Tom Taylor posted a page from the first issue of Rise and Fall featuring artwork from Darick Robertson (The Boys). The image showcases a young Constantine in a school uniform, immediately accepting a cigarette from his friend Aisha Bukhari. "There's a time when you need a hero and a time where you need a bastard." Taylor wrote, possibly referring a quote from the issue itself.RELATED: DC Black Label Hellblazer Title Coming From Tom Taylor & Darick Robertson

Rise and Fall will feature Constantine and Bukhari (now a detective) reuniting when billionaires start falling out of the sky with angel wings attached to their dead bodies. The case is unique as it is connected to the first act of magic Constantine ever performed. Taylor has described Rise and Fall as "a very twisted book,"  but assured readers that they would be getting the Constantine they know and love. "I want to write the bloke who steps out of the shadows with the smirk, the lit cigarette and all the answers. I want a story of shocks and sadness and triumph in the face of utter horror."

Hellblazer: Rise and Fall #1, by Tom Taylor and Darick Robertson, goes on sale in September from DC.
