On the latest episode of his radio show, wrestling reporter Dave Meltzer claims that Cena's rumored "underwhelming" opponent will be the guitar-wielding folk-singer Elias, but believes that management will "come to their senses" and change the match.

With a successful career in TV and movies, Cena has taken a step back from WWE recently. He embraced his role as a full-time performer for years, and even when he suffered injury setbacks the 16-time World Champion would somehow return way ahead of schedule. Today he's following a similar path to his two-time WrestleMania opponent, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

This is why when he makes an appearance in WWE, fans are actually excited to see him opposite of ten years ago when he was available 24/7. His presence in a wrestling ring is a special occasion and must-watch television. So it would be baffling to see one of the greatest of all-time spend a precious WrestleMania match with a mid-card comedy heel.

It would be one thing if this were Cena and Elias' first interaction at WrestleMania, but the two have already encountered at the previous two. At WrestleMania 34 Elias teased he was The Undertaker, Cena's hopeful opponent. After some trolling Cena took out the Heel singer before the real Undertaker showed up.

The next year Cena interrupted Elias' concert at WrestleMania 35, coming out to footage to Babe Ruth's famous Called Shot from the 1932 World Series and his original Word Life (Basic Thuganomics) theme. The face of the PG-Era revived his classic Doctor of Thugonomics persona and proceeded to deliver an old school rap and laid out the guitar playing drifter. If the two are to have a rumored match at WrestleMania 36, it would be their first official match but third consecutive interaction at WWE's biggest show of the year.

John Cena has one of the most storied careers in WrestleMania history, winning both his first singles title and first WWE championship at the event. He's main evented five times and just about every single one of his WrestleMania opponents is on their way to the WWE Hall of Fame.

Knowing that he hasn't wrestled a lot in the past couple of years and wouldn't want to risk an injury, wrestling a fellow part-timer in a short match similar to his match with The Undertaker two years ago could work. But there's still one dream match for Cena that fans want to see: they want Cena to battle WCW icon Bill Goldberg in Tampa.

Their match would be short and sweet. Entrances, poses, three minutes of wresting with just enough kick-outs to work the raucous crowd. It wouldn't matter who wins or lose, really -- both men are just too big for those stats to matter at this point. Sometimes dream matches don't require great wrestling but just a great crowd and captivating moments. That could definitely happen if John Cena and Goldberg square off for the first time ever. It at least would be way better than a match with Elias.
