The Walt Disney Company have announced release dates for two highly anticipated upcoming films — both John Carter of Mars and Frankenweenie will land in theaters in 2012.
Arriving first is Frankenweenie, a feature length expansion of director Tim Burton's 1984 short film about a boy who resurrects his beloved dog with unexpected consequences. The film arrives in theaters on March 9, 2012. John August wrote the screenplay for the 3-D film. The voice cast has yet to be announced.
John Carter of Mars, meanwhile, is scheduled to hit theaters on June 8, 2012, one full month after The Avengers arrives courtesy of Paramount, Marvel Studios and, by extension, Disney itself. The first live-action Pixar movie faces some stiff competition in the form of Men in Black 3 at the end of May and the Star Trek sequel later in June.
