Acclaimed horror director John Carpenter, who directed 1978's original Halloween, gave Halloween Kills, the eleventh sequel in the franchise, the highest praise.
Carpenter described the sequel to 2018's Halloween as "brilliant" during an interview with EW. "It's the ultimate slasher. I mean, there's nothing more than this one. Wow! Man."
Carpenter has famously been hands-off with the Halloween movies since its third installment in 1982. He made his grand return to the franchise by producing and providing the score for the 2018 film directed by David Gordon Green, as well as signing on to score the planned follow-up movies, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends.
When asked if he has finished up on the score for Halloween Kills, Carpenter replied, "We're done with that. Unfortunately, we can't score the next one (Halloween Ends), because everything's on shutdown. Hopefully, things will get better next year."
Carpenter's calling Halloween Kills "the ultimate slasher" echoed director David Gordon Green's sentiments from a couple of months ago when he assured fans that the 2021 film will consist of "twice the thrills and ten times the kills" of Halloween 2018.
Halloween Kills has also been described as a very timely take on mob mentality. "What we were seeing around the country of the power, of the rage of voices, big groups of people coming together enraged at the set of circumstances, that's what the movie is. The movie is about a mob," actor Jamie Lee Curtis explained in a prior interview.
Directed by David Gordon Green and written by Green, Danny McBride, Paul Brad Logan and Chris Bernier, Halloween Kills stars Curtis, Andi Matichak and Judy Greer. The film arrives in theaters Oct. 15, 2021.
