Star Wars actor John Boyega will produce the upcoming fantasy-horror film A Spriggan.
From writer/director Keir Burrows (Anti Matter), A Spriggan centers around a widowed mother who decides to return to the hotel her father used to run. When she arrives, she discovers a malevolent magical presence terrorizing the area. Coming from UK folklore, Spriggans are said to be the vengeful ghosts of long dead giants and possess the ability to call upon their former size when needed.
“I’m really excited to be joining A Spriggan and the team behind it," Boyega said in a statement to Deadline. "In my producing projects, I’m looking for film-maker driven, world-building, cinematic pieces... We’re looking forward to working with Keir Burrows to explore the monsters of real-life through a dark, twisted, fairy-tale world of the Spriggan.”
This isn’t the first time Boyega has produced a film with which he was involved. His production group, Upper Room Productions, also helped to produce 2018's Pacific Rim Uprising.
Oscar winner Neil Corbould will handle VFX on the project and create the film's creature. Corbould is known for his work on Gladiator, Gravity and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Produced alongside Josephine Rose (Slaughterhouse Rulez), the film is currently casting and does not have a scheduled release date.
