Since 2008's Iron Man, many characters from the pages of Marvel Comics have appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including The Punisher. Now, Marvel Entertainment Executive Vice President and Creative Director Joe Quesada has shared an unfinished piece of art that features the MCU/Netflix version of the popular antihero, as portrayed by actor Jon Bernthal. The somber image shows The Punisher standing in front of his series' title card while carrying a rifle over his right shoulder. Although the image itself is almost entirely in black and white, the only parts of it in color are the spots of red blood on The Punisher's face, hand and jacket.

Debuting in Season 2 of Netflix's Daredevil, Bernthal's Frank Castle/Punisher would eventually be given his own short-lived spinoff series on the streaming service, which saw former Hannibal writer and executive producer Steve Lightfoot serve as showrunner and executive producer. Bernthal recently stated he wasn't done playing the character, though the decision is out of his control.

The Punisher Season 2 stars Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Ben Barnes as Billy Russo, Amber Rose Revah as Dinah Madani, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Jason R. Moore as Curtis Hoyle, Josh Stewart as John Pilgrim, Floriana Lima as Krista Dumont and Giorgia Whigham as Amy Bendix. Both seasons of the show, along with all its sister series, are now streaming on Netflix.
