Joe Hill’s NOS4A2 Moves Forward At AMC

A television drama based on Joe Hill’s 2013 horror novel NOS4A2 is inching closer to production at AMC.

The cable network announced the project as one of three being considered for potential series order. The other two are the global mystery thriller Pandora, and an adaptation of Silent History, the app and novel by Eli Horowitz, Matthew Derby and Kevin Moffatt.

All three are moving into AMC’s new script-to-series model, which sidesteps the traditional pilot process in favor of using a writers’ room to develop scripts for several episodes and an outline for the first season before determining a potential series’ viability.

Announced in 2015, the planned adaptation of Hill’s third novel centers on a woman who tries to save her son from a psychopath who’s survived for centuries by abducting children in his 1938 Rolls-Royce Wraith (license plate “NOS4A2”) and draining their souls to keep himself young. Here’s the official description from AMC:

Victoria McQueen has a secret gift for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. Charles Manx has a way with children. He likes to take them for rides, transporting them to an astonishing – and terrifying – playground of amusements he calls “Christmasland.” Vic, with her gift, is the only one able to track the superhuman Manx. But finding him is the easy part. Defeating Manx and rescuing his victims will take everything Vic’s got and nearly kill her in the process.

Jami O’Brien (AMC’s Hell on Wheels) is executive producing NOS4A2, which hails from AMC Studios and Tornante.

Hill’s 2010 thriller Horns was adapted into a 2014 film starring Daniel Radcliff,  and his fan-favorite IDW Publishing series Locke & Key has received a pilot order from Hulu.
