Fans may have to wait until the Doctor Who Christmas special to see Thirteenth Doctor Jodie Whittaker in action, but that hasn't kept them from creating plenty of fan art in celebration of her arrival.
The BBC unveiled a first look at Whittaker in costume as the Doctor yesterday, with her look drawing from the previous incarnations of the Doctor, from the long trench coat to the suspenders and the boots. Yet, even as it drew from previous versions of the timelord, fans seemed to respond positively to the change, taking to social media to post their fan art of the first-ever female Doctor Who.
The first piece of art, which is by artist Francesco Francavilla (Detective Comics), features Whittaker leaning against what one may imagine to be the inside of the TARDIS.
While another piece of fan art, by Kenny Rubenis, sees the latest Doctor on the run from the Daleks.
Whittaker will officially make her debut as the Doctor in next month’s Doctor Who Christmas special, during which Peter Capaldi will bid farewell to the role.
She’ll be joined in the upcoming 11th season by Bradley Walsh (Law & Order: UK) as Graham, Tosin Cole (Hollyoaks) as Ryan, and Mandip Gill (Hollyoaks) as Yasmin. At that time Chris Chibnall (Broadchurch) will succeed Steven Moffat as head writer and executive producer. The new season of Doctor Who is expected to debut in Fall 2018.
