J.J. Abrams’ upcoming space-themed film “God Particle” will apparently be the latest movie to be connected in some way to the “Cloverfield” universe (via TheWrap).

“God Particle," a film that Abrams will be produce, like he did with the surprising “10 Cloverfield Lane," is about a team of astronauts that make a “shocking discovery” and end up fighting for survival in what is described as an alternate reality. Julius Onah (of “The Girl Is In Trouble” fame) is set to direct, and the film stars David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ziyi Zhang, Elizabeth Debicki, Daniel Bruhl, and Chris O’Dowd.

According to the insider, not only will “God Particle” be connected to the “Cloverfield” universe, but Abrams and his studio partner Paramount Pictures plan to develop more movies for a shared universe. Currently, both parties are hoping to see a new film set in the universe each year.

Ever since the release of “10 Cloverfield Lane," fans have been speculating whether or not “God Particle” was in some way connected. As die hard fans will remember, “10 Cloverfield Lane” also featured it’s own ARG (alternate reality game) much like the original “Cloverfield."

However, speaking to various media outlets, director Dan Trachtenberg stated that the universe was meant to serve more as a launching for creative ideas (kind of like “The Twilight Zone”), and that the two movies didn’t take place in the same universe as we know it. Perhaps alternate realities are coming into play?

“God Particle” is slated to open on February 24, 2017. Footage from the film is to be screened for reporters this Thursday in New York. Paramount Picture head Brad Grey will be on hand to present highlights of various films -- “God Particle” being one of them.
