WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Jiu Jitsu, currently in theaters and on video on demand.

Dimitri Logothetis' Jiu Jitsu features a ninja alien named Brax who comes to Earth when a comet passes over the planet every six years. He arrives through a portal in a Burmese temple to fight nine warriors, descendants of martial arts masters he taught jiu jitsu to 2,000 years ago, as part of some sick challenge. However, this time around, Brax has seemingly met his match, as Jake (Alain Moussi), zany mentor Wylie (Nicolas Cage) and the other members of the Order led by Frank Grillo's Harrigan hatch a plan to kill Brax, which leads to a very explosive ending.

Jake Discovers Brax's Flaw

When the team gets splintered, Captain Sand (Rick Yune) finds Jake in the Burmese forest, still struggling with memory loss from an earlier encounter with Brax, and lets him know that Brax's regeneration process has a flaw. When he heals, there's a six second window or so where the wound is exposed. Unfortunately, Sand is mortally wounded after a fight with Brax, which inspires Jake to be brave, especially as begging for mercy or fleeing Brax would count as a loss.

It doesn't get easier when Jake reunites with his crew, however, as Brax has slaughtered much of the Order, and Harrigan himself was impaled after a brutal scrap. Wylie does put up a fairly decent fight himself, but Brax eventually overpowers the veteran, hitting him with a back-breaker before slitting his throat. Luckily, Jake and his crush, Carmen, put their invisibility cloaks on and escape to the temple to rejuvenate.

Jake Blows Brax Up

Brax finds them there, but this time, Jake has regained his confidence, and he uses an array of weapons -- such as swords and shields -- to cut Brax up. Even the old fisherman's wife, who found Jake injured early on in the film, plays a role, shows up. She shoots Brax with a shotgun and badly damages the alien. Jake then remembers Brax's vulnerability, and while he can't get a deep enough cut, Carmen turns out to be the ace-in-the-hole. She uses her crossbow and fires at Brax, wounding the alien and leaving his chest exposed.

Jake then takes a couple grenades thrown at him by U.S. soldier Tex and stuff them into Brax's chest. Finally, the young martial artist roundhouse kicks Brax through the portal when the comet starts passing them by, knocking the alien through the rift and blowing him up. However, the portal is left sealed and intact, setting up the possibility of future alien invasions.

Wylie Was Really Jake's Dad

As the battle draws to a close, Jake is still reeling from a huge revelation from Carmen: Wyle is his father. Wylie taught jiu jitsu all his life, with Jake being his favorite student. Wylie kept this secret to protect Jake after he saw him lose his memory, as he didn't want him distracted with their family baggage. Although Wyle trained Jake from childhood, he needed the perfect soldier.

This revelation inspires Jake in the battle when Brax is choking him out, as he finally remembers the concept of family. Knowing Wylie made the big play to save mankind and that Carmen's life is on the line should he fail, Jake really shows Brax that he's the best at jiu jitsu. But when it's all said and done, as Jake exits the temple victorious, he looks back the portal, ready and waiting for a second round with whichever alien returns.

Directed by Dimitri Logothetis, Jiu Jitsu stars Alain Moussi, Nicolas Cage, Marie Avgeropoulos, Frank Grillo, Tony Jaa, Marrese Crump and Juju Chan. The film is currently in theaters and on video on demand.
