WARNING: The following article contains major spoilers for Avengers: Endgame, in theaters now.

Legendary comic book writer and artist Jim Starlin has offered his thoughts on Marvel Studios' smash-hit film Avengers: Endgame. Starlin is known for authoring Marvel Comics' The Infinity Gauntlet, which Marvel Studios' "Infinity Saga" takes it cues from, as well as for co-creating such key characters as Thanos, Gamora and Drax the Destroyer.

While he didn't say anything about his cameo, Starlin discussed Thanos' (second) demise during the finale of Endgame, praising the way it was handled.

"His final moments in the movie, I think, are just priceless," Starlin told IGN. "His demeanor once he realizes what's happening... I think that's just one of those little moments in the film that everyone is going to remember. Acceptance and taking it like a man. I thought that was perfectly played."

Elsewhere in the interview, Starlin discussed Gamora's death from last year's Avengers: Infinity War, as well as the character's curious reintroduction during the events of Endgame, saying, "Clearly, she is not with the Guardians in the final scenes, but I would assume that's where she ends up going..."

"Gamora is the character in the movies that I think is closest to what I did in the comic books," he continued. "She's like the adult in the room... a straight man for the other characters. So, when she died in the first movie, that really hit close to home, because she was the one who I really think is the closest to what my original creation was."

On that note, Starlin also addressed some of the key differences between the stories he originally wrote and the big screen adaptations, namely Thanos' changing motivations for wiping out half the universe. In the comic book Marvel Universe, he performed that act to court the embodiment of Death.

"They were very open with my about why they did that," he revealed. "Marvel is a little bit hesitant right now to introduce the abstract entities [like Death] into the Marvel Universe just because they're not sure how the movie-going population's gonna take that. I think that'll change once they get a couple more Doctor Strange movies out of the way."

However, Starlin was still happy with Thanos' new motivation, which was to bring balance to the universe.

"The alternate motivation they used was right out of Silver Surfer #34, so I had no complaints," Starlin continued. "They were substituting my idea for another one of my ideas. Who am I to complain on that one?"
