Midtown Comics in New York City will present Jim Shooter and Dennis Calero signing their new comic book, Doctor Solar #1 from Dark Horse Comics.

DOCTOR SOLAR, the classic 1960's Gold Key character that saw a second life with Valiant in the 90's, now gets resurrected by Dark Horse Comics! Empowered by a thermonuclear catastrophe, Doctor Solar discovers that he can control energy. Immeasurable strength is his at a whim, but he knows that if he can obtain this great power so can the wicked. An aftershock of the cataclysm that created Doctor Solar also gave Whitmore Pickerel the power to create life -- which he uses to serve his selfish desires and reckless ambitions. His newly created super being, Leviathan, clashes with the Man of the Atom in a fierce battle that ravages the city.

JIM SHOOTER started writing Action Comics and Adventure Comics for DC at the age of 14, and is well known for his time as editor-in-chief at Marvel and Valiant Comics. Jim wrote the successful Marvel Comics event Secret Wars and was the first to put Spider-Man in his famous black costume.

DENNIS CALERO has done the art on Legion of Super-Heroes for DC Comics, X-Men: Noir for Marvel Comics and several titles for other companies including Moonstone Books and IDW. Dennis also worked on Cowboys and Aliens which is set to be released as a major film in 2011.

MIDTOWN COMICS opened its first store in 1997, and is now the industry's leading retailer of comic books, graphic novels and Manga, with its online store as well as two landmark NYC locations in Times Square and Grand Central.
