Noticeable in the variant cover is the new villain Rogol Zaar, who will be introduced into Superman comics by new writer Brian Michael Bendis. The alien menace is said to have some kind of connection to Krypton before the planet was destroyed. He is presented as the main villain the Bendis' five-issue The Man of Steel mini-series that will see publication in the month of June.
