A high-flying DC superhero is the focus of Jim Lee's variant cover for an upcoming issue of Justice League.

Ahead of its release next month, Lee tweeted his variant cover for DC's Justice League #3, by Scott Snyder and Jorge Jimenez. Inked by Sandra Hope and colored by Tomeu Morey, the variant shows Hawkgirl in action wielding a long sword in one hand and a taloned glove on the other.

Hawkgirl played a pivotal role in the recently concluded DC crossover event Dark Knights: Metal by Snyder and Greg Capullo. Making her DC Rebirth debut in the first issue, Kendra Saunders was depicted as leading the current incarnation of the Blackhawks before helping the Justice League thwart the Dark Multiverse's invasion of Earth. After their victory, Hawkgirl was recruited into DC's premier super-team.

Lovely colors by @tomeu_morey! I really dig the gray sky as a backdrop. Makes the gold really pop. #dccomics #justiceleague3 #variantcover pic.twitter.com/3Qc11StwDt— Jim Lee (@JimLee) June 13, 2018

The upcoming third issue of the relaunched Justice League teases Green Lantern John Stewart falling under the influence of the ultraviolet spectrum and becoming the first Ultraviolet Lantern. Meanwhile, the rest of the League searches for a fragment of the shatter Source Wall putting them on a collision course with several DC supervillains. If Lee's variant cover is any indicator, the villains chose the wrong team to mess with.

Justice League #3, written by Scott Snyder and illustrated by Jorge Jimenez and Alejandro Sanchez, is on sale July 4 from DC.
