John Stewart was a former Marine turned architect who was selected as the backup Green Lantern for Hal Jordan. When Jordan retired from active duty in the '80s, Stewart took up full-time Lantern duties and served a larger role in DC's Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline. The character has since appeared in multiple other forms of media and gained a massive boost in popularity thanks to 2001's Justice League animated series.

The BINC teamed up with Lee to financially support comic book shops during the COVID-19 pandemic. Other artists, including Philip Tan and J. Scott Campbell, have contributed sketches for the auction as well. Lee has drawn a multitude of characters for the auction including the Question and an aged Bruce Wayne from The Dark Knight Returns.

Currently, Lee has raised over $600,000 through auctioning his work.
