WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the Kingpin story in Free Comic Book Day: Spider-Man/Venom #1, available now from Marvel.

In Netflix's corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Jessica Jones quickly brought her comic book reputation for superpowered, street-level noir adventures to the mainstream. But like her fellow Netflix Defenders, Jessica's time in the spotlight didn't last nearly as long as it should have. However, Jones is still on the job in the pages of the primary Marvel Universe, and she just stumbled onto a major case that should have been part of her live-action adventures.

In a story by Chip Zdarsky, Greg Smallwood and VC's Clayton Cowles from the pages of Free Comic Book Day: Spider-Man/Venom #1, Jessica realizes that someone is killing private detectives throughout New York and that someone is Wilson Fisk, the resurgent Kingpin.

Kingpin Jessica Jones

Jessica Jones hasn't been the most public figure in the Marvel Universe as of late, but she has been keeping plenty busy. Apart from the constant struggles that come with being a parent, Jessica's recent adventure saw her help Spider-Man get swindled by Boomerang back in Giant-Size Amazing Spider-Man: King's Ransom by Nick Spencer, Roge Antonio, Carlos Gomez and Jose Carlos Silva. After Boomerang stole the final fragment of the mystical tablet which held sway over life and death, Wilson Fisk used it to resurrect his son Richard, better known as the Rose. Jessica may not have gotten much more involved in Fisk's dealings then, but she has been sucked into them now.

In the wake of a string of murders, Jessica checks up on some of her old friends and ends up in the office of fellow private investigator Joey. Unfortunately, Jessica didn't arrive in time to keep Joey from being viciously attacked. All she can do is hold Joey as he tells her that it was Wilson Fisk who was behind the lethal assault. From the looks of things on Fisk's end, the former Kingpin is poised to abandon his political career and reclaim his underworld title. Fisk is on the warpath against the P.I.s who worked for him and potentially all of his other former collaborators and enemies, and it's only a matter of time until he tries to strike out at her. While she has superpowers, Jessica does have a family that could be exploited, even if she is married to Luke Cage.

Jessica Jones Kingpin Killing

While Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin and Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones were both two of the better-received parts of Netflix's Marvel shows, they never really crossed paths in live-action. If Marvel's Netflix shows hadn't ended so relatively early into their potential runs, these two street-level powerhouses could've had an explosive confrontation pitting two of the MCU's best characters and actors against each other. But for now, the only way these two will encounter each other is in the comic book Marvel Universe.

With the Kingpin positioned to be an active ongoing threat in Amazing Spider-Man and Daredevil, there's no telling where he may start hunting Manhattan's detectives. But when he does, it almost certainly won't be long before Jessica Jones makes her way to the top of his hit list.
