Entertainment Weekly reports that two-time Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner Janet McTeer has joined the series in an undisclosed role. Few details have been revealed, but her character “will have an enormous impact on Jessica’s life.”
“We are so fortunate to have an actress of Janet’s talent and stature join what is already an incredible cast,” Jeph Loeb, Marvel's head of television, said in a statement. “Our second season of 'Marvel’s Jessica Jones' aims to capture what audiences loved about our first, and Janet will be key to achieving that goal.”
McTeer, who earned Academy Award nominations for her performances in "Tumbleweeds" and "Albert Nobbs," is known for recent roles in such films and television series as "The Woman in Black," "The White Queen," "Maleficent" and "Battle Creek."
“We couldn’t possibly be more excited to work with Ms. McTeer for our second season," said "Jessica Jones" showrunner Melissa Rosenberg. "Her gravitas and authenticity are the perfect ingredients for all we’re trying to create this year. She disappears into roles, gives her characters extraordinary dimension and depth. We’re incredibly fortunate to be able to collaborate with her.”
Based on the Marvel Comics character created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos, “Jessica Jones” stars Krysten Ritter as the troubled super-powered private investigator. The second season is expected to arrive in 2018.
