Marvel's Jessica Jones is set to return on March 8, almost three years after the first season was released on Netflix -- yes, really! It's been a long time, so it's understandable if you've forgotten some details about the series, or perhaps you're just looking for a quick refresher to jog your memory.

Here, we're looking back at the thirteen episodes of Jessica Jones Season 1 as well as her stint on The Defenders, refreshing your memory regarding the biggest moments of both shows. This will, of course, include major spoilers from Marvel's Netflix universe, so consider yourself warned.

Who is Jessica Jones?

Jessica Jones Season 2

A private investigator, Jessica Jones is a complicated, sarcastic person who's riddled with feelings of grief. While living in New York City, Jessica had a run in with the evil Kilgrave, a man with mind control abilities. As a result, she left her budding superhero career behind, retreating into self-loathing and self-medication by way of hard liquor.

After her dealings with Kilgrave, which we'll delve in to later, Jessica attempted to keep a low profile, specializing in digging up dirt on other people's lives as a PI. Taking small cases, she used her intelligence and wit to make a semi-honest living out of her office/apartment.

In typical superhero origin style, one of the cases Jessica decides to tackle intertwines her with criminals and ultimately leads to her using her powers to stop them. One case in particular leads Jessica to teaming -- albeit reluctantly -- with a handful of other individuals with powers.

Tragic Beginnings

Jessica Jones is the only daughter of Brian and Alisa Jones. As a child, she spent a lot of time alone in her room and was incredibly protective of her younger brother, Philip. In a tragic car crash that she accidentally caused, her parents and brother died, leaving Jessica an orphan and filling with her both guilt and regret.

Jessica had a few jobs before she found her calling as a Private Investigator. Working a mundane job in an office in NYC, she was subject to sexist remarks and discriminatory actions. Being the no-nonsense person she is, Jessica didn't put up with it for long. She blackmailed her boss, who frequently committed fraud, forcing him to pay her a generous severance fee.

Jessica also worked as a mascot for a local sandwich shop, donning a ridiculous costume and handing out leaflets to those passing by in the street. As you'd expect, this job wasn't for her either, but it wasn't until she saved a young girl's life that she began to consider being a hero -- sort of.

Trish Walker, aka Jessica's Best Friend

Jessica hadn't been orphaned long before the Walkers adopted her; unfortunately, it was a publicity stunt to promote a television show that they were a part of. Living with Dorothy Walker and her daughter Trish, Jessica started to discover her superhuman powers that she gained after the car crash. Dorothy was a pushy, strict mother figure who Jessica quickly grew to resent, but she quickly developed a bond with Trish, who was a child star.

One day, while she was still rather young, Jessica discovered bruises on Trish's neck that were inflicted by Dorothy. Not only that, she found out that Dorothy would force her daughter to make herself vomit in order to lose weight. This did not sit well with Jessica, and she used her new-found strength to launch her adoptive mother across the room with ease.

Powers

Krysten Ritter in Jessica Jones

Jessica Jones' life was saved in hospital, with a mysterious organization paying for her medical bills. IGH specializes in turning normal people into soldiers by using chemical enhancements. While the origin of her powers are still shrouded in mystery, her abilities were made very clear throughout the series' first season, and her backstory will be fleshed out in Season 2.

Jessica has superhuman strength, enhanced speed, increased durability, rapid healing, and flight -- well, not so much on that last one. Jessica can leap very far and very high, but she doesn't exactly soar among the birds and clouds. Her comic book incarnation, however, can fly, so it's possible she'll gain the same ability at some point during her run on Netflix, but as we learnt a long time ago, nothing is too predictable when it comes to Marvel's television series.

The Kilgrave Era

Kilgrave

A child who suffered from a neurological disease, Kilgrave was experimented on as a child by his parents in an attempt to repair his DNA. His parents accidentally give him the ability to emit strong pheromones that practically enable him to perform mind control to anybody that's within his vicinity.

The mind-controlling sociopath known as Kilgrave was used to getting his own way, but Jessica is more than a little strong-minded and was the only person to go against him. He used his eerie power to gain control over Jessica, later forcing her to kill Luke Cage's wife, Reva, because she had footage of her husband being experimented on. (This was long before Luke and Jessica ever met.) Eventually, Kilgrave became obsessed with Jessica, and somehow thought she had genuine feelings for him.

Kilgrave became more and more powerful over the course of Season 1, but Jessica grew immune to his control after managing to break free. She acted as if she wasn't immune, though, so she could get close enough to stop him once and for all. And stop him she did, snapping his neck in the final episode. The trailer for Season 2 indicate that he is indeed dead, though there are still remnants of him all around Jessica and her friends, including in her mind. David Tennant, who plays the psychotic manipulator, will return in Season 2, though likely as a manifestation of Jessica's trauma.

When Jessica Met Luke

Jessica Jones is a reclusive, anti-social person by nature, but every superhero needs allies, right? Jessica Jones met Luke Cage in the first season of her series, where he initially found her lurking outside of his bar. Eventually confronting her, Luke convinces Jessica to share a drink, and the pair exchange flirtatious remarks until the inevitable happens.

Their mutual attraction wasn't enough for Luke to get over the fact that she killed his wife, though, and they agreed to stop seeing each other. At one point, Luke appeared to forgive Jessica for the death of Reva, but it turned out to be Kilgrave using her new flame to get to her. Thinking on her feet, Jessica shot Luke in the head and proclaimed to him -- while he was unconscious -- "You were the first person I ever imagined a future with." Luke's eventual relationship with Claire Temple seemingly put a dampener on any sort of romantic reunion, though.

Super-Friends

Jessica would eventually meet Daredevil and Iron Fist in the Defenders miniseries, which saw her team-up with Luke and the aforementioned heroes to save New York from the ancient cult known as The Hand. She was a hard sell when it came to joining the ersatz team, since she's reluctant to embrace her powers for doing any sort of good. She's cynical by nature, and the plot of The Defenders was the craziest of any of Marvel's Netflix series yet. Perhaps it was just the right amount of crazy to actually get Jessica to work with New York's other street-level heroes.

The Defenders saw Jessica and co. come together to take down The Hand, an ancient organisation with bad intentions. These unlikely heroes all meet at Midland Circle by following their own distinct leads, and soon uncover the dastardly plans of the aforementioned organisation. By the end of the crossover, Jessica finds herself back at Alias Investigations - her P.I. endeavor. She has Malcolm (a former junkie who is Jessica's best friend/right hand man) helping her out, but not much else is known about what she finds herself doing until Season 2 premieres. It's easy to imagine she'll go back to investigating small cases, but it's more likely that her time with The Defenders has given her with an urge to fulfill a more heroic pastime.

Marvel’s Jessica Jones will return to Netflix for a second season on March 8, 2018. The character was last seen in Marvel’s The Defenders, which is available now on Netflix.
