When Jessica Met Luke

The very first encounter between these two was retroactively shown in  The Pulse #14. During her days as the hero Jewel, Jessica Jones teamed up with Luke Cage and Iron Fist to take on the Maggia crime family. Even during their very first meeting, Luke was impressed by Jessica's moral fortitude, and it was not long after that the two had a drunken hook-up.

At first, that was all their relationship was, but Jessica discovered soon after that she was pregnant. That revelation quickly led to the end of her relationship with Scott Lang's Ant-Man. However, it also drove her and Luke closer together than ever. Although they always had passionate chemistry, neither had plans to have a child with the other. However, Luke proposed to Jessica, but she didn't accept until a week after the birth of their daughter. As she said, Jessica wanted to wait until she got Dani's opinion on the matter.

Jessica Jones & Luke Cage

After the birth of their daughter and their marriage, Luke and Jessica quickly became an iconic Marvel couple, and it was only a matter of time until that relationship translated onto the screen. When the Netflix series Jessica Jones and Luke Cage were announced, their relationship played out all over again. When the shows finally premiered the relationship was teased, the drunken hookup included, and the chemistry Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones and Mike Colter's Luke Cage couldn't have been better.

However, their relationship was strained to the point of breaking, and things rarely advanced, even when the two characters appeared together in Defenders. In subsequent seasons of both characters' solo shows, they each became further involved with different people. Since both shows have ended, it's tough to say if or when these heroes will have the chance to rekindle their romance in live-action.

However, the pair are still a relatively happy couple in the comic book Marvel Universe. Over the years, Luke and Jessica have certainly gone through their share of marital drama over everything from disagreements over the Superhuman Registration Act in Civil War to the increasing amount of danger their daughter is exposed to. However, Luke and Jessia always find a way to make things work. While both have toyed with the idea of retiring from superheroics outright, their mutual understanding of the responsibilities that come with their power have kept them in action.
