Jessica Jones is back, and though it may seem a little out of the private investigator's wheelhouse, the former Avenger is diving headlong into a part of the Marvel Universe filled with monsters and magic rather than cheating spouses and industrial espionage.
Kelly Thompson and Mattia de Iulis are at the helm of Jones' new digital-first series, the first creative team to tackle the reluctant hero since co-creator Brian Michael Bendis left Marvel. For their first storyline, the pair not only has Jessica treading on unfamiliar territory, they've paired her with someone not many people would've expected: Elsa Bloodstone, Monster Hunter.

"I had an uphill battle getting [Elsa] into Jessica Jones because she’s not a natural fit," Thompson told CBR in a recent interview. "Which is exactly what I wanted to play with — what does a crazy, over-the-top monster-killing character like Elsa Bloodstone, with her four feet of orange hair and stilettos, look like when you bring her into a more gritty, street-level book like Jessica Jones? Jessica and Elsa have a scene in Issue #2 that is my absolute favorite. A really unconventional “interrogation scene†that I hope folks will enjoy."
