Comedian Jerrod Carmichael is in negotiations to join Mark Wahlberg in "Transformers 5," TheWrap reports.

Michael Bay returns to direct his fifth -- and, he insists, final -- film in the Paramount Pictures franchise. Nickelodeon actress Isabela Moner is also expected to star in the sequel, which begins production this summer in Detroit.

Carmichael is best-known as the co-creator, writer and star of the hit NBC sitcom "The Carmichael Show," which debuted last year.

Paramount announced dates in February for three "Transformers" sequels, with one released each year beginning in 2017. They'll be the first fruits of a writers room established a year ago to map out an expanded cinematic universe that will include a "Bumblebee" spinoff and an animated feature. Plans are also under way for "Transformers 8."

"Transformers 5" will arrive in theaters June 23, 2017.
