Hawkeye star Jeremy Renner revealed more details about his injuries following the accident involving a snowplow which saw him airlifted to hospital on New Year's Day.
In a post on Instagram, Renner shared a photo of himself starting his recovery through physical therapy. In the caption, he revealed for the first time the extent of his injuries and expressed optimism about his recovery. "I want to thank EVERYONE for their messages and thoughtfulness for my family and I …. Much love and appreciation to you all," he wrote. "These 30 plus broken bones will mend, grow stronger, just like the love and bond with family and friends deepens."
In a statement released by Renner's family, it was revealed that he had suffered "blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries." The statement confirmed that the actor went into surgery for his injuries on Jan. 2. The accident occurred while Renner was using his Snowcat to plow snow on his property in Reno, Nevada, as well as the private road on which he lives. After exiting the Snowcat, the vehicle began to roll away. When Renner attempted to climb back inside, he was run over, resulting in his significant injuries. Renner was aided by neighbors until he could be airlifted to the hospital.

Renner has since kept his fans updated on his recovery through social media. The actor celebrated his 52nd birthday on Jan. 7 while in the hospital, marking the milestone with a photo of himself and the ICU staff. Renner recently announced that he would be recovering at home after a lengthy hospital stay. Despite "brain fog" from the accident, he expressed excitement to be at home with his family.
According to Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve, a friend of Renner's, the accident occurred as he was attempting to help someone whose vehicle had become stranded in the three-plus feet of snow. She also shared that the actor is well-known locally for performing similar good deeds. "He is always helping others," she said. "There are a few times he’ll post about what he has done or donated toys, but most of it you would never know he is doing."
Renner is best known for his role as Clint Barton/Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, most recently reprising the role in Disney+'s Hawkeye series. The actor has also earned Academy Award nominations for The Hurt Locker and The Town and has appeared in other action franchises such as Mission Impossible and The Bourne Legacy. He is currently starring in the Paramount+ series, Mayor of Kingstown.
