Scream 6 star Jenna Ortega has divulged new details regarding her character Tara Carpenter, revealing that she will develop a personality in the meta-slasher film.

Speaking with the 20 Questions: On Deadline podcast, Ortega explained how Scream 6 allowed her to actually flesh out her character and give her some depth. "[She was] only ever crying and screaming on the floor, so on this second one, I had to interact with my other cast mates and give her some sort of a personality," she said. Ortega also opened up about filming the sequel, disclosing that "it was just a lot more intense" compared to production on the fifth film.

Ortega, who is currently earning rave reviews for her portrayal of Wednesday Addams in Netflix's Wednesday, first portrayed high school student Tara Carpenter in 2022's Scream, with her character being the first one to be attacked by Ghostface in the film. However, she survives the brutal attack and later helps her half-sister Sam (Melissa Barrera) defeat Ghostface, who is revealed to be both Sam's boyfriend, Richie Kirsch (Jack Quaid), and Tara's best friend, Amber Freeman (Mikey Madison).

Ghostface Takes a Knife to the Big Apple

The upcoming sixth film -- rumored to be titled either Scream !! or Scream VI -- will take place a year after the events of Scream and follow the film's four main survivors -- Tara, Sam and twins Mindy and Chad Meeks-Martin -- as they leave Woodsboro behind to start a fresh chapter in New York unaware that a stronger Ghostface is already waiting for them in the Big Apple. While additional plot details remain under wrap, a leaked photo from the upcoming sequel has revealed that one of the settings in the film will be a movie theatre that has been converted into a Ghostface museum.
