Jenna Fischer Says Entire Cast Wants to Return to The Office

That the fate of NBC's The Office remains undetermined seems a bit odd. Sure, series star Steve Carrell left the show last season, Dwight (played by Rainn Wilson) is reportedly getting his own spinoff written by showrunner Paul Lieberstein (aka Toby), and Mindy Kaling has set up a pilot at Fox. But that doesn't mean the hit comedy is in danger, does it?

Well, possibly. NBC apparently has yet to renew cast contracts, which seems unusual. Meanwhile, The Office co-creator Greg Daniels reportedly presented NBC with a pitch for Office 2.0 that would re-envision the series, possibly with some of the same actors.

While at the premiere for The Office star Jenna Fisher's upcoming film The Giant Mechanical Man, The Hollywood Reporter asked her if she knew anything about the hold-up.

"I don't know; it's not up to me, because I'm just the actor, but the actors are all prepared and wanting to come back," she said. "The whole cast, I'm talking about everybody -- Ed [Helms], John [Krasinski], me, everyone is wanting to come back. So it's really just a matter of NBC pulling the trigger. They have to announce it by May 15 when the upfronts happen, right? So we're all just waiting. We're really excited to come back, everybody wants to come back. I know Rainn does have his show, but he's going to come back to The Office as well, so yeah, we're just waiting."

Fischer even commented on the possibility of Kaling and Wilson returning to the show that made them famous, but admits to not knowing all the details. "I don't know how all that works out," Fischer said. "That doesn't mean she's gone forever. Listen, Mindy writes on our show, so we actually only get her for a couple of shooting days every week anyway, so I don't know if that's something can be worked out. Like I said, I don't make all those schedules or anything, but yeah, I mean a lot of things are misreported and exaggerated and it's hard to read."

The Office airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
